I have a portion control plate

One thing about the study is that they give you little freebies from time to time that are supposed to help with your weight loss goals. I have a plate that is marked with places for meat, grains and veggies and the approximate portions that you should eat for each. It is colorful and I think it is kind of cool. It makes it easy..although not everything you eat fits neatly into those categories.

I'm lucky that I have a very high metabolism, because portion control has never been a strong point of mine. I always joke with myself that if my metabolism starts slowing down and I start packing on the pounds, I will need to throw out my current plates and bowls and get new ones that are smaller. Because that's about the only way I will ever practice portion control. lol

It can be a problem for sure..especially when there is something you really like.

@snowy22315 And that is a problem for me. I like just about everything in the food category. If I have one weakness, it is definitely gluttony!

The plate sounds cool!!! I don't know if it would help me a lot, I lean towards more of the veggies than the grains and not a lot of meat either. The other thing that helps me control my weight is water and iced tea. When I lived in Thailand for 7 months I lost 20 pounds because I started eating like a Thai rather than insisting on American food. I even was as proficient as a Thai at using chop sticks.

Is there a place for beans if a person is a vegetarian?

That would take the place of proteins. I eat veg at times myself.

@snowy22315 Tofu tonight for protein. I'm mostly eating more vegies than fat that I'm not bothering counting calories.

I haven't seen one of those but I think it's pretty cool too. However, I'm not sure I'd want one.

You aren't forced to use it obviously, and after awhile you should be trained to know what the proper portion is anyway. However, there are many things that don't fit neatly into those categories anyway.

I like the idea of having items on a plate that is supposed to have food to eat that can cause weight loss.

Yeah, I think I will use it. I did today, but it wasn't one of those things that fit neatly into a category..I did cover the veggie portion with salad though and just a small amount of dressing.

I will take any tool I can find to make weight loss easier. I am going to have to hide the peanut butter cookies though..too easy to grab one. I was hungry when I got up this AM and wanted to make an English muffin with an egg and cheese. Since, I was a bit over hungry I popped one of those cookies while I was waiting..and they are 150 calories per... I don't think a bite would have done it.

I remember I used the trick of small plates to eat small portions when I wanted to lose some pounds.

Same principle really. I don't think I could put my supper food on a small plate though. There wouldn't be room for everything, llike lots of veggies. I would have to eat things separately. do use small plates for lunch though sometimes.

@snowy22315 I use the same plate for the meat and the cooked vegetables, but I use a separate bowl for the salad.
