How closely are you following the first Donald Trump criminal trial?

I have been following the first Trump criminal trial fairly closely. It's about falsifying documents to pay off Stormy Daniels not to talk about her (I believe) 2006 "romantic" encounter with Donald Trump. Trump was instructing Michael Cohen and others to "bury" his relationships with Daniels and Karen McDougal in 2016, when he was first running for president. It's pretty well established that these "affairs" took place, but to turn these relatively trivial (in the big picture) payoffs (to Daniels and to David Pecker, who "caught and killed" the McDougal story), into a major felony conviction, not just convictions for a series of lesser crimes, it might have to be shown that Trump was suppressing information about his affairs to benefit his 2016 campaign, not just to "protect" his family (and his marriage) from what he had done. The prosecution is trying to fill in this gap with Michael Cohen's testimony right now. They are hoping Cohen will provide evidence that Trump was more concerned with his campaign that his family. It's interesting stuff. I will attach a summary from a "main-stream" news source, not a Lefty or Righty news source. I hope my summary and this clip are helpful to those who are following this case only casually.

What are some of your main sources? I check my Lefty sources, and then FOX, to see if/how they spin things differently. In this instance, I went to a "MSM" source before posting.

@NJChicaa As a political Moderate, leaning slightly Right in my old age, I find FOX News fascinating. I read Brian Stelter's "Hoax" during Covid. Trump had almost total control over FOX during his "presidency." But now FOX has a bit more autonomy than it did from 2016 to 2020. Do you want me to send you a link to my favorite Lefty site?

@TheHorse For me it is primarily CNN with a splash of MSNBC clips on Twitter. I do also check TheHill.com regularly. Every now and then I take a peek at the FOX News site or I'll see a clip on Twitter.

Heh. As a "Liberal in Recovery" I check the Lefty websites and FOX. But I listen to NPR and watch MSM now and again.

I now am following it more than a couple of weeks ago. As of right now, what do you think, do you think Trump will be found guilty?

I worry that they will find him guilty of only the lesser charges, which might not result in prison time. But Cohen's testimony sounds strong so far.

I'm following the case only casually, I find his news rather depressing. He seems to be able to get away with so much...come to think of it, can they add a prison room to the White House in case Trump does win reelection? Shoot, he showed how much he didn't give a darned about his family with his having affairs in the first place...then going through all the publicity of the trials and more, it doesn't have to be proven. Anyhow, lets face it, he worries more about his hair getting wet if he goes out in the rain??? What's next??? He can't eat certain foods because they may hang from his teeth if he smiles-scratch that, how often does he smile? I do thank you for the updates though.

It's pretty well-known that he is a "bad man." Even my Conservative friends, many of whom supported him in 2016, admit that. But the law is the law. He might not be sent to prison (in this case) if it cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he did what he did to "interfere" with the 2016 election.

@BearArtistLady I bet there are a bunch of stoner "rednecks" out there who know (by now) that Trump is an utter "dumbshit" but would vote for him anyway "just to see what happens." Yuk yuk. Pass that joint. But I think most long-term Republicans, who stand for traditional American values, are tired of him. Would people like Mitt Romney, who are/were traditional Republicans, consider starting a third party? That's in the back of my mind.

@TheHorse Well, "IF" they decide to send him to prison, where would they send him where he would be"SAFE"? And what if in the future they prove his guilt and he's in office as President? It sure makes a heck of a mess!!! It would be interesting having him conduct government business in prison garb.

Some of the news sources I use have mentioned that there is a trial going on. So I am aware of it. I hope they lock him up and throw away the key.

I hope the prosecution is not getting too cocky. They're not calling some witnesses they had originally been thinking of calling.

Heh. Could be. I think I meant the log to represent our strong and fruit-bearing Country. And the snow to represent what can happen to it if we do not preserve Democracy.
