Back in early 2017 we used a ride from the company called Uber, The driver was a woman that drove weaving on the rode and the car was dirty! The next time I called a company called Lyft and we , myself, daughter, grandson, my mother and uncle have taken many, many rides with them from June 2017 till yesterday with some only minor complaints. I even road with them yesterday with no problems. Then today I tried to contact them (which you do via their app on a cell phone) and was told that for my own protection I have to take a picture of my drivers license or other ID and send it to them! I am in a hurry to get this ride for my daughter to get to work!!!!!! I had never seen this before. I took the picture and then I got a notification that I had to take the cover off it an retake the picture. Here in Virginia our ID's are one whole piece therefore I cannot remove anything! And I retook the picture and it than said that it was not able to be accepted that I need to take a picture of one of my utility bills or another document. So how would that protect me? My daughter ended up getting an Uber ride off her phone.

That sounds so fishy. I’ve never used a ride sharing service. I don’t think I’d take well to landing in a dirty car.

That is why I changed to this one and been riding with them for almost 7 years, now this. It does sound fishy.

I find it really fishy too. They already have an app, so it should be easy enough to submit it there. Why have to go through all that with a phone call?

@HaruLoid It is not a phone call. It is a download on the app on my smart phone. There is no way to contact them either.

Sounds rather complicated to me, Glad your daughter was able to get a ride to work, To avoid all this doesn't she have access to public transportation?

@dfollin sounds like where I live, I mean there is some public transport but since I got here 7 years ago I have never been able to figure it out, Seems the busses either come often or come not at all, Since I don't work outside the home I rely on my two feet where they can take me,

I haven't ridden one in a couple of years. I hope they don't do that here. They must have had some issues. I only use Uber so hopefully they don't. I'm glad your daughter decided on Uber.

@dfollin ........That is horrible. I use Uber a lot and am sorry you had this issue in your area. I think they need to be more careful about who they employ.

Ride share companies want to be sure you sure you are. Unlike taxies, lyft and Uber (and companies like it) rely on what they call a partner program. Where people like you and me can sign up to drive for them. Because they contract to private indivuals, they have to be sure the drivers and riders are safe. Uber requires a profile selfi, even for me-- a rider.

I have been riding with them for 7 years! Had family members with me. I have sent rides for my daughter, mom and uncle. Never had to do this and how is showing my utlity bills going to make it safe for me?

@kaylachan I have been riding with them for about 7 years now, they have been paid! Only the drivers know what I look like. I have gone from other places to other places that are not my address on file! I used it during these years to get my mom and uncle too and from the doctors offices, hospitals, nursing homes and stores. I also used it to take my daughter from work to pick up her son from the babysitters then to home. They know this. I used the Lyft yesterday, then all of the sudden today I get that. And how would my electric bill identify me?

@dfollin It helps verify your idienity. It confirms the information you're giving is correct. That you are who you say you are and you actually live at the address on file. A ride share app might ask for conformation of idienity if something suspicious has occoured. As you can report drivers, they can flag you, too. Maybe the driver who took you prior to the incident where they asked for idienty varification got suspicious and reported you. For safety, that will never be known for sure, but that's my best guess. Ride share companies want their partners and passangers alike to feel safe.

That sounds suspicious to me. I wouldn't have done it. Have a good weekend.

I don't understand their policy. They should have posted you their id, they were driving, not you. Sorry for this weird customer experience

I find it strange that they have to call you for your to submit your ID to them. They have an app, so the client should be able to upload the photo of the ID through that app.
