My husband and I are in a big finacial mess.

My husband quit his job as a solo truck driver, because he couldn't support both households be himself. Well, that was in early December and both of us have been looking for work like mad. Anyway, now I have been employed, but they will not let me start into next year. I'm glad that I have a job. but how do we get caught up on our bills. We have nothing saved and just live paycheck to paycheck. Do you have any ideas?

best thing to do is call all of your creditors ,an explain to them whats going on.most of them will work with you.if you choose to hide from them it will make matters worse.you end up in court an ends up costing you more money.but your husband shouldnt quit his job untill he had another one to go to.good luck

I don't think she was asking for money. But that is kind of you to offer help to someone you don't even know.

We are living paycheck to paycheck so I know where you are coming from. My husband is trying to get his Class A CDL so that he can start driving over the road. He is doing this so that we can be a little bit more financially stable. I sell things that we have in our home that are not being used on ebay. When my boys outgrow their clothes I sell them on ebay. We have made a little bit by doing this but not much. Have you checked into any assistance from the state that you can get until you get back on track? I wish you luck and I hope 2007 is a better year.

Unless you folks are planning on driving as a team forget making lots of money. My husband was gone from anywere from a month to two months at a time. Go to www.classadrivers.com if you would like to find out more about truck driving. One other thing, don't go to a company that is trying to sell you a lot on there company. Good luck to you.

That sucks, I understand that feeling. I'm in the process of looking for a job now. Figured I'd wait till after the holidays, no body hires before the holidays(unless it's seasonal)and people don't usually quit their jobs till after the holidays. Have you tried unemployment? Not really sure if he would qualify for it, but they can go by past employment, even if it's only one or two checks. Also, check into governemnt assistance, check your local human services offices, at least get some food stamps-you've worked not like you're sponging off the system. I you have children under the age of 5 I think, go to your local Health Dept. and apply for WIC. That's just a supplemental food program. Also, call your creditors up, and ask for a grace period and let them know you're going to be late. I've found most are very nice and will work with you-if you call before they're late. Good luck!!

You hit it right on the nose when you said to call your creditors. They would much rather get paid late than nothing at all. At this time of year, you won't be the only one in that situation. Good luck! Mike

Congrats on your job. Apply for help paying your electric bills through your local electric company or community action and take the first appointment even if it is like a month or so away it will buy you time and your electricity won't be turned off. Go to your local welfare office and look for or asks for a list of numbers that can help you get things paid or a list of food banks etc. Food banks can help you save the few dollars you have for things like gas to get you to work your first few days. I know alot of people don't like what is given at the food bank, but hey it is food and it saves you money for things you have to have money for until you are back on your feet. Check out local clothing banks or churches that have clothing banks if you need clothing for work. Local churches and charities may be able to help you with your basic bills like water, rent, and electricity, it depends on how they chose to help people. Some churches say no, some will say they don't have the funds, and others will say yes, or they have to talk to others before making a decision. Some Churches will help you with gasoline for work until your first check. At least my friend got help with her gasoline until her first paycheck. Is there some odd jobs your husband can do for extra cash around the area? Can he do work for your landlord to help pay for the rent? Labor Ready if you have one in your area may be a good place for a days wages to help pay for your smaller bills such as cable? phone? etc? Do have relatives or friends that need things done that either of you can do for them for extra income? Can you have a garage sale to help pay for things and help clear out what you don't need or want? Can you borrow money from family and friends? Can you take back items you got for Christmas? Can you apply for assistance through your social services office for food stamps and/or money? The last resort is to pawn items until you can get them back out after your are on your feet. The absolute last thing I would pawn is your vehicle, some places have vehicle pawns where you just borrow money on your title. I don't think that is very wise unless you can pay it off with your first check without being back to square one. Good luck and Happy New Year!

It's hard to save when you don't have the money to save, maybe you can start by cutting back on some expenses that are not absolutely necessary. Until you both have jobs again just be very careful with your spending. maybe you can make smaller payments on your bills.

You can prolly take an overdraft from your bank to start aside and seek for something new and yes if you have friends you can take a loan and repay them later

You could go around the neighborhood and post flyers stating that you can do odd jobs for cash. Somebody might need some cleaning, babysitting, snow shoveling, or errands taken care of. If you explain your situation you might get more people willing to help out. Best wishes to you!

I think one thing you should do is to start saving money so that you will have something to fall back on if you have any financial problems. I think you should invest in mutual funds, stocks, banks, finacial institutions. Besides in no circumstances pile up credit card debt because it quickly piles up and the interests will burn a hole in the pocket. i think yur husband shouldn't have quit the job before finding anothr one. now he should look to get ajob as fast it is possible. And in meanwhile ask family and close friends to help you out a little.

Oh how I can relate. Just over a yr. ago I was let go from a job after being Robbed, and we were pinching pennies Big time, and then I got a job that I was not suited for, so we struggled for about 7 months or so. But I was believing in God for a miracle to bring me thru, and I beleive if you have Faith you can get thru this as well, and be better of physically, etc. because of it.

There are a lot of programs out there, that can help especially if you do/or will have the income coming in. Do a search for "financial counseling" or "debt elimination"--something like that. Consider writing to or calling all of your creditors--many companies have payment plans. In the meantime, when you start getting paid again, and you both start working on tackling those bills, put a small amount (at least) away each week, so that you never fall into this mess again... Start investing.
