what is it not to like about cradle? it's one of the best black metal bands ever. the voice, the lyrics, the image, the sound, everything is grate.

They're not truly black metal, if you want to listen to true black metal go listen to the likes of Totenburg, Nargaroth or Burzum. Dani Filth voice is an acquired taste, the lyrics fit, the image is a bit too much overdone, the sound is good because they have good recording material and a studio of their own, that's it.

they're more 'goth metal' than black. black metal is emperor, burzum, mayhem, immortal, old man's child, darkthrone, etc... even dimmu borgir is more black metal than COF.

I think they are a very good band. I used to listen to them when I was an angsty teen, then I stopped for many years for some reason. I mean, i'd download single songs, and enjoy hearing them here and there.. but I didn't get any CDs for a while. Recently I picked up Nymphetamine and fell back in love. :)

I really like older COF, but the newer stuff seems watered down. Dani got married, had a kid, put on a few pounds...and the music went when he let himself go too. :-/

I started listening this band in the age of 15... I love their first album, midian, dusk and her embrace and V empire... but I than thornography is the worst album in english metal history...

i started listening to it about 8 years ago right before midian came out. i think that they've really gone down hill since then. the last album they put out that i liked was bitter suites to succubi. all of their new stuff sounds like bad versions of the old. i really don't think that anything that dani's written has to do with their lives other than maybe 'black goddess rises' which could be written for his wife since he has referred to her as his 'black goddess'. if you notice, every album is a concept album.
Principle of Evil Made Flesh--essentially the "classic" black metal
Dark Fairytales in Phallustine--it's very theatrical (so are the band photos) and heavily influenced by bram stoker. it even quotes dracula.
Dusk and Her Embrace--alot of people consider this to be their best album. it's great melodic black metal and shows dani's growing as a lyricist without all the stereotypical outside influences from the first 2 albums. incoporates alot of mythology (sumerian).
Cruelty and the Beast--elizabeth bathory. duh.
Midian--heavily influenced by clive barker. it's even got doug bradley aka Pinhead talking on it. midian is the forbidden city where the freaks dwell in barker's movie 'night breed'
Bitter Suites...-- it's really just an ep with some new versions of old songs with a few new songs too. all about succubi/vampires.
Damnation and a Day--the bible! garden of eden and the end of days.
there's hardly anything that in there that could be considered autobiographical.

I started listening to CoF when I was about 16 or 17. I have really liked what seem to be an extreme metal sound at the beggining, but later on I've found bands that are even better than them at their league. I still think they are decent anyway and listen to them occasionaly.
