'Dream Girls' received eight nominations, but not for Best Picture. 'Babel' got seven nominations. Check out the article below and tell us which of the nominated films/actors/actresses/directors YOU think should win! http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/movies/ny-bc-oscarnominations0123jan23,0,5668660.story?coll=ny-top-headlines

I really don't like watching the Oscar's but did flip bye it a few times, and now want to see Babel... I'd never even heard of this movie, how did that happen?

I haven't seen Babel but want to. It's been pretty well reviewed, it's one of those movies that involves several different stories of different people that end up being related. There was a similar theme in the director's previous film, 21 Grams, which I enjoyed.

His movie before 12 Grams was called Amores Perros. It's in Spanish, but I think it can be found with English subtitles.

You know, I am so horrible about watching movies and tv. LOL But for some reason, I am always interested in who is nominated and watching who wins. But would you believe, when they air the show, I still miss watching that too because I am just so bad about not sitting long enough to watch tv? I have so many things on my DVR list to watch that I recorded, but I just don't watch them all that I have to start deleteing some shows to make room for the one's that I do watch. ha ha So, again, I guess I will try to watch the Oscars. :) Thanks for posting who was nominated. At least I have gotten that far now. LOL

The last few years I've seen very few of the nominated movies, since I mostly watch movies on video. But I try to see some this time of year--a friend of mine has a big Oscars watching party every year with about 70 people and a pool in which the winner gets about $300. So I try to see some of the nominated movies so I can at least know a bit about them to talk to folks at the party.

OK, the Oscars are on Sunday night--anybody got any predictions? What movies that are nominated have you seen? I have seen very few of them, unfortunately.

I have to admit, I have not had a chance to watch several of the movies that will be on, but I hope to see the Oscars, but knowing me, I am more likely to miss them, because something always comes up, or I forget when it is on. Anyways, I have seen on TV, their lists of nominations, and I know that everyone has their predictions, but, I have learned that nothing goes the way that any of us think it will. In fact, I heard today, on the TV, that there are several factors that decide which person will win, such as the number of awards that person already has. So, that really makes it suck somewhat, because it is a bit biased. We'll see if I tune in and check it out, when it airs in a few days.

A friend of mine has an Oscars party every year at her apt. with about 60 people or so and two different TVs, etc. It's a lot of fun, and everyone kicks in some moeny and fills out a ballot with who they think will win. The winner gets all the money in the pot. Although sometimes I miss some of the TV show with all the socializing going on.
