Santa thief

Ok I just have to tell you guys this story. My Mom's boyfriend works for 911 and over the Christmas holidays he was telling us about a call that had come in. An elderly lady called 911 and said that they needed to send the sheriff's out to get Santa out of her chimmney. Of course they thought she was a bit deranged (or had drank too much egg nog lmao) so they didn't respond. About 30 min. later she calls back. She asks if they are sending someone and the operator told her there was noone in her chimmney. The little ole lady just said "well ok but in about 15 min you can come get him cause I'm gonna shoot the S.O.B." So they decided to send out a car (this was about an hour after the first call). And sure enough a guy dressed in a santa suit was stuck in her chimmney. When they asked him what the heck he was doing, he said he was going to rob her and didn't figure the police would buy it when she told them she was robbed by Santa. There's no telling what would have happened if they hadn't decided to go ahead and send a unit. The dispatchers were then informed to NEVER decide on their own that a call was a fake. gezzzzzzz What do you guys think of that?

Interesting story and I must say that the robber was pretty intelligent. I am sure that he had it all planned out and just didn't figure in getting stuck in the chimmney. He probably didn't count on such a persistant elderly either....lol. Way to go Grandma! Thanks for sharing this story.

That was pretty incompetent of the police. That last I knew they had to send someone out when they get a call. Even if it was just some 5 yr old that dialed 911 and hung up. And for that exact reason. As for that robber, his idea wasn't a bad one (for a thief). I suppose that if you wanted to rob someone during the christmas holiday that next time they might want to be the santa that walks through the door, though.

I'd like to add that around here if someone dials 911, they send someone out. Even if it's a prank or an accident.

Wow! What a crazy idea that guy had. I mean, just how silly was it of him to think that he could get away with a crime just by wearing a Santa suit? What's worse is that his logic almost worked, since the people at 911 didn't believe the old lady at first because of that part of the story! Good gosh. I am glad that the dispatchers in her area have now decided not to dismiss a call just because it might sound strange at first. I am sure that they get enough crank calls (which in itself is really sad, that anyone would do that) but they should _always_ do their best to make sure that they aren't leaving a dangerous situation unattended.

OMG thats awesome. I know I shouldn't laugh especially since that woman could have gotten hurt but its still so funny. A robber with a brain- well kinda. He should have figured he couldn't have gotten down her chimney. That woman is going to be telling that story for years every christmas =P

I am an EMT and trust me, some days this would be a boring call. It is amazing the things people call in for or do to themselves. My guess is though due to our sue happy country, they dispatchers should send someone on every call, you never know what you will be sued for. It is a crime to make a fradulent call, but I have never heard of anyone being charged.
