for me i think it depends on the credential of the person running for public office based on the principle that competency for public sevice is presumed existing on all individual...an actor or a seasoned politician for me is ok to run for public office...what sayeth you?peace.

Should accountants be politicians? Should mechanics be politicians? Should engineers be politicians? What difference does it make what job the person had previously? Qualifications for politicians can be found in any vocation or any profession. An actor is probably more acquainted with much of what happens in life and in the world than many from other areas who are in politics. They encounter all sorts of circumstances in the movies they make. They study philosophies and motivations. They have probably played the roles of politicians, doctors, lawyers, mayors, criminals, policemen, parents, teachers, labourers - you name it. Would that not give them an idea of how people live and of their needs? Would not these things make good qualifications for a would-be politician? I am not saying an actor would have the best qualifications, but I am saying an actor's qualifications would be as good as one in any other vocation or profession. It all depends on the individual. Good discussion. Thanks.

thanks for that very good reply sir...im in accord with your opinion...certainly there can be no restrictions on any person for a political position...being an artist/actor is not the only gauge for competency to public service.. there are others like integrity, incorruptibility(which is questionable at times on any person vying for public office)educational attainment, family backgrounb etc..peace to you my freind.(shalom)

For me its the same thing, why not if the person has capability and honesty, he should be given a chance to enter politics. May be then we can weed out the corrupt ones out of the system. In India most of the politicians are uneducated and oppurtunists it will be better to see some educated and well intentioned people entering the politics.

yah i do agree with your notion...every body has the right to participate in public service,in nation building...these rights belong to all citizen not disqualified by law...certainly being an actor or an actress is not a disqualification...but the choice fall down on the shoulders of the voters...as long as the person is competent to serve then he may be voted upon...peace!

the philippine constitution says that the qualifications to run for an elected office is that you must be a natural born citizen of the Philippines and must be able to read and write! Two minimum qualifications which are often abused by our countrymen to include actors and actresses. That's why, more often than not they are elected into the congress and senate not on the basis of their qualifications but on the basis of their being popular in the entertainment world. Have you noticed that whenever traditional politicians (trapos) go on political campaign in the countryside, they bring along famous actors or actresses who can sing and dance and do some funny antics on the stage? well people on the suburbs lap it up and our country my friend is going further to the dogs.

yaeh bosing your right about popularity issue...politician do bring along actors and actreses to attract voters...a show of strength as i would say...be that as it may...the requirements to run for an elective post was made that way due to the presumed right of every individual to enter into public service and to participate in nation building...however this right is sometims abused or made a mockery by those incompetents and corrupts!but not all politicians are not that corrupt(not that corrupt!?)certainly not all actors and actresses are not that corrupt nor incompetent...which all goes down to the requirements that only the people are required to wisely scrutinize...that is competency and incorruptibility(or at least less prone to corruption)!peace to you manong bosing!thanks for sharing a very good commnt on my discussion!paece to you and your family!

Sir!This is there own interest. That is why they are independent to decide in which field they can serve better.I have an opinion about this question.I like to share all the knowledges to othes. As it is said world is a stage and all the man and women are actor and actoress. So this is the nice thing to join politics. There are many successful charecters in the past who belong to acting ground.

I think that it is the individual who has to decide the path for itself. Since this is the democratic country and everyone has the right to have there own life style whether it is an actor/actress or common man.

i do agree on your notion...truly competency for public office cannot be limited on ones profession alone, not even popularity will make you win an election...it all goes down on whether the public are intelligent enough to determine whose the better candidate to elect...peace!

I agree with you and I think that they can do a great job just like anybody else. As long as they have some common sense and a knowledge in politics.

Absolutely Not. How can you trust someone that is proficient at lieing for a living.

You mean others don't lie? Maybe we should ban insurance, car and real estate salesmen; and any business people; and how about lawyers? Come to think of it, if lying disqualifies, who is left?

All I'm looking for is someone who is at least going to attempt to do what they say. Really and truly it doesn't matter. If a person has a desire to run for office, I will give them some consideration.

opinion well taken,....btu in my opinion....fdame isnt to be a gauge for competency in public service...true that some of these poeple do take advantage of what ever they have to be in power...this gain of power however can be achieved only through a vote from our intelligent voters...so it all goes down to...competency of the candidatefor public office and ....the maturity of the voters voting...thanks my friend for posting your reply!peace!

No way! UNLESS they graduated with a college degree that relates to politics. I'm not saying they're stupid it's just that they don't have the capacity to rule over a nation. There's too much at stake. It's not enough that you have the heart to take the job on, you also need the knowledge of politics, economics, foreign/local policies, military strategy, financing..etc. In politics you aren't there to entertain the masses. You are there to serve the masses!
