What is your favorite color?

Ok, that headline is just to check something. I get so many responses to my posts from people who obviously read nothing but the headline. I get so tired of this! Sometimes the headline sums up the post, but at other times it's just a lead in. So, I am posting this discussion to see who will answer. If you respond only to the headline you will get an automatic minus from me and I hope other members reading this will rate the same. For those of you who are actually reading this, I'd like your take on how to deal with this problem.

I give a negative for people that totally miss the point of the discussion. And sometimes I do not rate them at all...just because I am not sure if they read it and didn't understand it. I don't think there is much we can do to people that do not read the discussion. Of course, if they do not understand the discussion, one would think that they would read some people's responses. ha ha I think the only other way would be to report the person as abuse if they respond with the one or two word answers. But if it counts for anything...my favorite color is purple!!!! :)

LOL -- yeah, I always give them a [-] if they answer the title but not the question. It's REALLY annoying!

A very interesting test. I rarely ever just read a title. Maybe a way to get them to read beyond the first title heading would be to put several periods after it to indicate they should read on. And my favorite color is blue.

I had another thought while I was scrolling through your topic to see how many actually did answer with just a color. If they are on your friend list drop them. And send a private message telling them why. If a friend can't be bothered to read the whole thing I wouldn't want them on my list.

I hear you, sometime i get zero response's because think some people just read the Headline only, that is okay, but everyone in mylot would make this system work better if they took time to read the discussion. But sometimes their is discussion's too long for my taste to read, like example a full page paragraph post. I like post's straight to the point, without to much extra detail. Like about the size of this post. Plus probably not every post is going to be compatible for everyone to have a interest in responding too. Just my opinion, no offense to anyone.

Oh, I have no problem with people not replying! That's just it -- I'd rather they just DIDN'T reply if they're not going to bother to read the question!

It's funny how some people actually failed this test. I'm glad you made this discussion, maybe this will show us who's actually interested in helping people and who's just interested in getting more money in his/her pocket.

LOL...you are too funny! I am new here so I haven't come across anyone doing this...just reading the headline. But, I know it would make me mad. This site is about so much more than making a quick comment for a penny! LOL PS...my fav color is light blue. ;)

Mostly I DO think of the title as a lead in, because you really can't tell a whole lot about a coversation unless you read. But I do like the color green =)

I sometimes get responses which show clearly that just the headline has been read. But usually these answers are written in such broken English, that I can´t even figure out what they are trying to say. So I don´t know if they were trying to say s.th. and couldn´t because of their lack of knowledge of the lingo. I generally don´t give them a "-". I just make a comment stating that I didn´t understand what they meant. If I get answers where it´s evident that they haven´t read the text of my discussion and just give me a one word or one phrase answer I´ll give a minus.

If it was just people who don't speak English, I'd be a bit more understanding, but many of those who are guilty of this are from the US.

I totally understand what you mean. A lot of people are just reading the topic, but not futher. Somethimes it makes me also mad. I dont have any suggestion who to deal with this problem. There are many people who are not reading, just only the topic. By the way my favorite color is blue. I am allowed for saying that??

Yes, since you proved that you read the rest of the topic you are more than welcome to post your favorite color as well.

I think you have just solved a problem for me. My headlines on my topics are not stupid and simple enough to grab the attention, and the crowd. Then you HAD to ask a question for me to answer. Is it okay to say that I like any color EXCEPT ORANGE.

I don't minus people who do this I always just leave it alone. I know how frustrating that it can be I have had people do this to me without reading first. I wish that everyone would take their time to read instead of just writing something. Oh and by the way for the title my favorite color is purple. I hope you read this instead of seeing the color and then rating.lol.

My favorite color is..............hahahaha just having some fun with you.lol. Yes I find it particularly annoying when that happens. I acutally got a reply that started with DUH? I wanted to reply with a DUH? back but it's not really worth it. I skip these or just give a (-) and go on to the next quality post. I don't know how to change it. Maybe most of these people will just quit if we keep them on ignore.

Well if we give him enough negative marks here his reputation number will go down and maybe he'll wonder why and check it out.

Somehow, I don't think they're going to quit. Look at poster #4 for example. Over a thousand posts and obviously couldn't be bothered with reading.

The problem here is that so many people are only posting for the money - though I still can't understand why the money means so much to them when it is really so little. So inorder to meet their "targets" of posts made, they see a quick title like "what's your favourite colour" and respond quickly without bothering, just so they can move on to the next discussion. As to what can be done - well - I always try to give a - to anyone who obviously hasn't read the topic, but other than that I really don't know - I guess this is something the people who run this Forum will have to investugate further for the good of everyone. Oh and btw - my favourite colour is lilac - LOL!!!

I think the negative rating is the only thing you can do. Of course if you see the same person doing it all of the time, it might be considered abuse. Not sure. I would think the MyLot people should be able to give more info on if this is abuse, although it does not meet their criteria that I remember, it is not racial or anything but at the same time it is not meeting the function. Almost like gaming. It is aggravating. I understand. I hate answers that say I don't know. Is that considered abuse?

Answers that say I don't know are against the guidelines of the site so I generally report them. You can see the guidelines here: http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx

well, I've tried that. For instance one of my questions was "Do you think it will last?" Obviously, in order to know what the question was referencing, you would have to read the rest. It was about a relationship between two characters on a tv show. Some idiot replied with "it is entirely up to you".

But not everyone does it as u can see to the responses here. One out of every 5 has this problem. A solution to this can be that you may ask the question and leave blanks next to it suggestive that there is more to it than just the headline like.... Which is your favorite color......???? By the way mine is white...

I agree with you on your comments about people not reading further into the topic. I get quite a few responses as well where they did not read the sentences and paragraphs and gave answers that made no sense at all or had nothing to do with the topic and the questions asked below. Many people are just here to make money and do not care about having quality discussions or comments. Keep giving them a minus rating if they continue to do this as I am sure myLot is probably reviewing on the negative ratings and the abuse reports. You can also report them as well. Red is my favorite color. :-)

I know what you mean... That's happened a couple of times in my post and it annoys me to no end! It's of no use to me, clogs up the other good answers, and is just plain annoying, that you bothered to write out an interesting question and someone just skipped it by for the heading, which just does not detail what I'm asking! Usually I'll give people that totally miss the point a negative rating. I'm tired of people who just post a million answers a minute with one word answers, completely missing the point, just for a few extra bucks a month! You'd think they could just calm down and have some fun...

I was going to say! I saw the header and thought '... that's not the sort of discussion Bun posts!'. :D I get so, so many people who just reply to my header and don't bother with the discussion and it gets my hackles up like few things else. I rate them negatively and I admit, I often get a bit testy in my replies to them. I had one person apologize to me. And generally other people in the discussion will pop up and say something to them as well.

i agree with you its sad when you have a question in the discussion and they just answer what was in the title especially when it has nothing to do with it. it makes me angry and i usually give them a minus. wish that people would just take the time and read and not rush and try and post with out reading.

The way I deal with it is by giving negative responses to people who don't really have anything to say but are just trying to add anotuher number to their posts. If I read a post and I don't have any good input then I find something else. I'm new here and I'm just learning but I see why people get mad about one liners.
