How do we answer questions with more than one or two lines??

When I first got here, I was told to try to answer a question with two or three sentences. So I have been doing that as much as possible. Usually its more like 10 sentences. Today someone said that we should be writing more than two lines. There are questions out there that you have to struggle to answer with two or three sentences. How on earth do we make more than two lines .Anyone with tips would be greatly appreciated. example: Someone had an alphabet game they started with a so the next person is supposed to say B What do we do to make our comments longer if all they ask for is a letter?

It just depends on how detailed the previous persons discussion is or the main discussion. If someone asks a silly question like "what colour are your eyes" then I am just going to say grey in response. If someone asks for advice about a problem then I will try to be more descriptive. I think its a Judgement call.

I have that same struggle too but I finally decided to just skip discussions like that. Anyway the rules says poll type questions and game type like the one you mentioned are not allowed and will be deleted so I'll be just a waste of time. I feel 4 liner response is the minimum but I often exceed that like you. I read a post that said she got a dollar for posting 20 lenghty discussions or less.

Yes exactly what I was going to say, it is actually listed as a dont on the mylot rules. No one answer discussions such as yes or no answers, so I would presume it would be the same for colour of eyes etc, unless you gave a pretty detailed response?.

I agree with Manong, you shouldn't even bother with that type of discussion. After all it's not really a discussion and mylot advises against it. I find that the more a topic interests me the more I will have to say..hence the more money I can make. I find using the search for discussions helps alot when I can't find anything that looks interesting. Also checking for new topics under your interest is helpful. Good luck and happy posting.

The best thing is to respond only to discussions that are "real" and to what you like or feel like talking about. The admin. of mylot will pull discussions that are based on chain writing and spam. So, the discussion about A and then you write B, will probably get pulled, because people will end up reporting it. Sometimes, it takes me a long time to find a disucssion that I want to write to, because they are all spam or not anything that I can write to. For example, if they do not pertain to me, my life, or anything that I can relate to, then I just have to keep looking. You can make your comment longer, by being honest and detailed. Sometimes, you don't realize that you actually have more to say, but were looking for the topic to express yourself and your opinions.

If I can not think of a good response to the question or topic at hand, I will not post anything and go on to the next discussion. Sometimes the discussions just don't interest me or if they do I have heard it already a million times here, that I refuse to reply again. It can be a true challenge to write more than a sentence for a lot of these topics, but when you run into ones like you have (I am giving you a plus on this one) it is refreshing like a cool breeze. I like the fact that you did not just spew out a couple of sentences and leave people perplexed as to what you wanted too. :)

I agree. I find the discussions where it is unclear what they are even asking quite frustrating. I tend to view it negatively, as it suggests to me that those people probably aren't really interested in generating quality responses anyway. Although, I will try to come up with an answer if I think that clarity issues are mainly due to a language barrier.

I haven't heard an exact number of lines or sentences but guidelines say "quality". If you answer the question that's fine but the only way I can get what I feel is a quality response is to add a related story or something to give it more substance. The example you used with the game - I wouldn't have bothered responding to it just because it would be too much work to come up with enough. Mind you, I am a writer, that's what is paying my bills so I kinda use mylot to "practice". I've read a several of your discussions and responses and in my opinion your doing great.

Yeah... the alphabet games are majorly against the rules anyway. But, if you're really writing two or three sentences, you should have more than one or two lines! Just don't respond to discussions where there isn't much to say... because if there's not much to say, it's not really a discussion now is it? There are plenty of ways to comment with more depth, including choosing better subjects, and responding to responses already given by other people. Joining in a debate about major social issues is another one, or chatting about something you really like, such as a soap opera, a hobby, having kids, a health affliction that you or a loved one has, etc. Be creative, and avoid the garbage discussions. They get deleted and you lose the earnings anyway.

You need to have at least two or three sentences but you can write more as well. The rule is to not have less than two or three. Because otherwise your not really answering just trying to get points.

Better we reply in our natural mode, mood and length, unmindful of minimum or maximum. If we write more than we ought to as a natural reply, the reply becomes a boring thing to read. Let us not punish the readers. (This is my view. I shall not impose on you.)

i try not to join those type of discussion as much as possible... i want to write long responses and they will not give me the proper response that i would likely to give. but still there would be no harm that is going to be done for you if you would answer sometimes to stupid discussions...

I know that we are suposed to give quality answers so when someone asks a question or is playing a game like you mentioned I just stay away from them. I think that most people just do these to get there names out there and be seen so more will recognise them. I try to only pick discussions that I know I can give a good quality reply to and from what I have seen you are doing just fine with the way that you have been going along here.

I think that there is no harm from asking questions. Some members, though, post questions just to get a new discussion started. Some people, post a one line question, and still use abbreviations in that single line. Others type their question so fast that they manage to introduce some typos in that line. Some other members are obviously seeking answers to their questions. More precisely, they actually care about the number of received answers, but not about the contents of the answers. It is easy to recognize those members, as they generally do not give enough details about the problem that is bugging them, when they write their message.

I usally concetrate on question that I can only comment on more than one line. I Dont make a lot of money that way, but it is slowly growing. I find a I read more questions I am thinking out of the box more. Maybe just reading more comments will help others grow in their thinking evenmore.

Yes I agree , a answer should be according to question , we don't have to long our respons or comment if the answer is short. When you feel that a discussion deserves quality response just do it.

We are told that our replies should be as descriptive as possible but there are threads which are so simple to answer that we will not be able to post more than a sentence or two. For example the alphabet game and all the other forum games. There are also question like what country are you from etc to which our reply will not be that long. So for those I either don't reply to such questions or if I reply I struggle hard to make my post longer than two sentences.

It is the desire of mylot to have a descriptive responses which they have clearly mentioned both in mylot guidelines but also near the window for giving reponses. But some mylotians put questions, [TELL ME YES OR NO..... whether,,,,] This is perhaps by habit they ask this question. There are some questions, to which no one can write more than one sentence, unless someone for the sake of writing, has to adopt principle of elasticity. Question: Tell me your brithday: You can say: My birth day is 3.7...... You cannot be writing why you were born, where you were born, what problems your mother had when you were born, what problems you had when you were born etc. That is the reason I avoid the topics which requires only a short answer less than oneline.

It's very easy and simple. When you are responding to discussions, think that you are now writing a composition, and use a lot of words. Use every word that you can, and without shortcuts. Give a specific and detailed answer that will answer other members discussions. This way you will increas your earnings on myLot.
