Norton might be bloated, but AVG is no where close when it comes to protection. AVG might be tempting because of how small and quick it is, but Norton is a professional standard. Stick with whats safer, not easier.

The wifes subscription to Norton is soon expiring on her Dell desktop that we purchased new 1-1/2 years ago. At the time, I thought Norton was king of the hill for AV protection so I ordered it with the unit. Since then, I've been super happy with the AVG protection that Keith put on my laptop when he overhauled it some time ago. Of course, the most attractive thing about the AVG protection is the price (referring to the free version), which then makes a novice like myself worry about the old addage "you get what you pay for". What would the recommendation be here? Go ahead & dump Norton & switch to AVG? Is the free version of AVG still sufficient or go for another version? Should a personal firewall be added such as McAfee? Also, of another concern in dumping Norton if that's the recommendation, I've read in previous posts here & maybe elsewhere where Norton is very difficult, if not impossible, to purge from your system. Sort of like trying to get rid of AOL after using the "trial version". Any issues there? BTW, her OS is XP Home. Thanks in advance for any advice.

AVG can't get all the virus. Norton Internet Security has a expiration, once you buy it. AVG once you buy you probably have the full program, probably for a limited time. I don't need any anti-virus. I have Hacker Defense Shield CMS, DEP from Microsoft. Command prompts with DEP could make a good defense. Hacker Defense Shield, were made by some Hackers to defend people around, it was being built since 2000, But its not availible to download, its only if you got real life hacker friends. Norton Does Not Impact System performance. The stuff inside norton impact system performance. Much ram is used with Virus Scan. The firewall is working hard, taking up a lot resources to figure how to block attacks. AVG may come with a firewall, it is not well coded in my opinion. AVG free and pro, is weird. But during test scans. AVG could get, F-trojan, or F-Pack. on "Viruscan Online" Norton Missed some too, since probably some people don't update it. Well, for people who want a little better protection, Norton is the one. Fast GOOD protection, AVG. There are other anti-viruses as well all WELL CODED AS WELL.
