When school is cancelled...

When school is cancelled for the day are you happy about this as it gives you more quality time with your children or does it upset you because it means your routine is going to be messed up for the day? Personally for the most part I love when school is cancelled, however I am a stay at home mom so I never have to worry about finding a babysitter or anything like that. It usually means we all get to sleep in a bit and then try and figure out what we're going to do for the rest of the day, lol.

It totally screws with my routine LOL and I cant stand that...mind you its not like the kids get to sleep in either because sometimes we dont find out school is cancelled until 6:30 or so and they have to be ready by 7am so I have to get them up...I dont sleep in so its not a big deal for me (I get up between 3:30 and 4:30am every day).....When my kids get a snowday or cold day they automatically want me to drop everythign that needs to be done and hang with them which just aint happening

LOL, it does make it much more difficult to entertain them when we have things that we are use to doing without the constant interruptions.

I have a 12 year old still at home, and I am a stay at home Nana who takes care of the grand babies while my oldest son and his wife work. My 12 year old adores his niece and newphew so when school is out for snow, we have a blast. It's not just help with the babies I like when we are treated to a snow day, but I fully enjoy my Sons company. I say Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!

LOL. Yes I love the snow days too, at least the ones where we can actually get outside and do something. If we're cooped up in the house it does make it a little more difficult.

It depends... Yesterday & today school was cancelled. I stayed home yesterday because we could not get out of the driveway very early. My daughter and I had a ball.. Doing things at home.. Today I'm working and she is at daycare- She loves to go there also-- they do fun crafts, make cool lumches, and were having a v-day party today. I only get so many vacation days per year-- so we were planning a great fun day next week when she off for the entire week (Presidents day mid0winter break), we were going to go get pedicures, shopping, lunch-- etc... Now I'll have to work because of the snow day- If you ask my daughter she would rather have had me home next week. : ) But either way it's good with me-- I love to spend time whenever we can.

I'm sure it is difficult when you have to take the time off work to stay home with them, but I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your time with her. To bad about next week's plans though :(

It makes me happy when they are out of school. I'm a stay at home mom too. It just makes things easier around the house. We don't go anywhere and usually just stay occupied at home. It's a relaxing day when they are out.

It no longer affects me, but when it did, I LOVED having my kids home for a snow day! We always dug into my collection of Family Fun magazines to find our favorite craft to make, favorite treat to make, etc. And I always made sure we did the things I never got to do as a kid (usually because they were too much mess, too much noise, too much something or other that would get on someone's nerves.)

LOL, it was the same when I was growing up, we couldn't do things that made a huge mess either. I do that with my children sometimes as well...who cares about the mess anyway? It gets cleaned up eventually. The way I look at it, the mess will always be here, but my children won't.

I like having the day off with my daughter as I get to teach her at home which we both really enjoy. I think it must be hard for kids with 2 parents that work though, as what are they supposed to do with the kids all day?

Yes I often wonder what they do in situations like that, I suppose they must have back ups for those situations. I love having my children home with me too, although it's usually just a lazy day for us.

I do not get upset but may get irritated. The older 2 are 7 1/2 & 6. They fight like ctas & dogs. So when they are home all day that means that is all I get to listen to. It makes it hard because I still have to tend to the 8 week old baby too.

I can understand this. When my children were younger it was more difficult.

Even though both my girls are now in high school (as of this year), I love snow days. Unfortunately, as others have said, they are usually slow to make the decision to actually close the school (almost never happens) so everyone is already up and lunches are made and all. Still, if the girls aren't dressed yet, they love to lounge around in their pjs for the day, reading, watching movies, etc. I work from home so there is no impact on my schedule -- I work no matter what -- and my husband is long gone for his work, as he leaves by 4:00-4:15 AM most days. I really enjoy having a day with a slower pace now and again :)

I also love when school is cancelled, unfortunately, my school district hardly ever does this. All the schools around us can be off, but mine have school. When I was working, it wasn't so much of a big deal because I worked at a school, for special ed, so they always cancelled. I do love to just "fool around" with the kids on a snow day though.

I used to love it and still enjoy it a lot even though my kids are a bit older now.I couldn't care less about a meesed up routine when I had the chance to spend some more time with my kids. But I work in s school. If it is canceled I don't work as well. Most parents however don't have the day of work just because the school is canceled and that will just create some problems for them in terms of arranging someone to stay with their kids.

Hi! I am very happy when the school is canceled for the day. Yes this really gives you quality time with your children. If we are putting ourselves in our childrens' shoes, we would then realize that these children are so happy and becomes more closer to us parents. Maybe because the reason for this is that we most of our whole time is always spent outside the house... When we take some times to spent with them, they become more open to us, they would not only treat us as their mother but also a friend or an older sister. They would laso share their ideas with you and even their secrets especially to those having daughters though I have 2 sons... Its like making their whole life spent with you all the time and for me, as a daughter of my mother, that is what I wanted. Sleeping, watching TV together, baking and cooking foods, helping them with their studies, playing with them, going to the malls, eating lunch with them. Well, for me its okey if they canceled the shool out for the day because it gives us sometime together. I feel so happy when I spent my day with them even when we are only styaing at home.

I know its difficult if we have children at young age. Like me, I have 3 and 5 years old but then its okey with me becuase this is the period or the ages when we should take and spent quality time with them becuase at this age, this is the time they are starting to know, assess, develop their values and their ownselves. So, as a mother, I think, we should be a part of it and take the major role. Even our husband can take a role with this... Just suggest things that would work up though he dont realize that way like how to treat their children...

I'm usually happy for the kids. But it doesn't happen much for us. My parents live about 2 blocks from us, so if school is cancelled, we all get to sleep in a little extra then I drop them off at mom and dad's when I go to work. We have only had one snow day this year. And my mom went out and built a snowman with the kids. It was my sons first snowman and he is 6 yrs. old. I wish I had been with them, but my mom enjoyed it.

Personally, I don't like it..the kids are always getting days off, and it messes up my usual routine. I am at home too with my little one who is 4, and it is better to have no other kids home when she is home- less fighting.

I think school is very important for us, especially for children. Because children need to be taught knowledge and skills in the society.

i'll be really very happy as i can spend the time with my family .

I am happy about it at times, not because i have children myself but my sister does and its nice to go up hers and spend time with them. but it also can be annoying because it means there will be more little people in town and the traffic will be busy because people will be taking their kids out for the day if they are not at work, it also can be expensive fo the parent because if my sister is not at home and im not around she has to get a child minder which costs her about £20-£30 for the day, yeah i know your thinking that is not much for someone who works full time but that is £20-£30 towards the shopping or new clothes for the kids
