how internet security systems be enhanced for these unwanted virus & worms?

with the mark of advanced antivirus in the market day to day, the concepts of detection of virus,worms,etc with these antivirus have also changed .. updating the antivirus day to day i think will not suffice.. not even by the introduction of more firewalls .. so is the total concept of networking of this network going to change for the sake of protection from these virus,worms..what are ur views? bcoz in many places antivirus plays a sufficient role..
