What is the definition of self confidence?

I have another discussion going on four roads you should take. One of them is the road of self confidence. Peoples definition of self confidence seems to differ from mine. I would like to hear your definition of self confidence and then I will tell you mine.

Self confidence to me means that you have the guts to do something, to want to achieve something, knowing that you can, and knowing that you have the drive, the goal and knowing that you will win, you will give everything you've got and you will succeed. It's knowing that you will succeed and having self-belief that whatever you put your mind to you will do! It's just a shame I don't have much of it LOL

THATS exactly how I feel...BUT IMO one doesnt necessarily have to have SELF LOVE in order to be confident (I was explaining that in the other thread)...you can be confident in life and still hate who you are...I had tremendous confidence in myself when it came to dealing with my abuse, my history and my addictions etc BUT I didnt love or even like me in the slightest..

I guess self confidence is diffrent to others. But to me self confidence is based on a few things. Standing up for what you believe in without any 2nd thoughts. Not being a push over, and hating yourself.

Also one other place I found that has a defintion of self confidence says :
"Confidence gives you courage and extends your reach. It lets you take greater risks and achieve far more than you ever thought possible” (Capitalism Magazine, 2002
To me that signifies someone who is happy about them selves and loves them selves.

Keep telling yourself thaat you are valuble, acceptable and capable. Remind yourself that you are special and can make a contribution to life no other person can.
Make a list of all your past achievements, your strong points and the qualities of your are proud. thus develop self confidence.

To me self confidence is the ability to do something and not worry what anyone else thinks or says about it because you are comfortable in how you feel enough about it to accept critizism . To be able to do something just because you want to and not worrying about others and their judgements about you . Trying something new and different just because you want to . Being able to stand up for what you really believe in and not backing down when someone tells you that you are wrong . Being secure enough about yourself to be you around eveyrone else , and not having to pretend .

Self confidence? I don't know the word - I know very well "lack of self-confidence". Afraid my definition is havening the feeling within yourself that you can accomplish a task. I tend to want to do a lot of things but need reasurrance from friends and family before actually "doing". They are usually right, I can do it but I never see it until afterwards.

I believe that people who are self-confident are self-assured, feel good about themselves, believe in themselves, have can-do attitudes.
