Who rules the remote (of tv) in your house?

First come, first serve. This is the rule. Whoever got a hold of the remote first will be the last. And that's as good as ruling the tv for the entire day/night! We follow this golden rule in our house. Too bad for the late comers. What about in your house?

Can't watch tv unless its the news, have to spend al my time running errands, studying, looking after Claudia or posting stuff here =) Otherwise, we have over 5 tvs in the house cause we used to fight so much over it, with my parents here and all and when it was so boring in the breaks I got.

We do not have a rule. It depends on what is on, but usually my husband gets it first and when he cannot find anything he like, he will turn it over to me unless there is a hockey game, a comedy, MASH, a movie which he has seen already but which I have not, a show that he does not want to see although I want to see it, if he is not going to the computer room, if he is going to the computer room and wants to listen to the show but does not want me to change the channel. So the only time I get the remote is if he does not want to see the show and he does not mind if I turn it to the show I want to see.

0_o LOL I got kinda confused reading your response. ^__^;; so basically, your husband rules the tv (not the remote) because, if he wants to watch a show, you can't change the channel, right? ^__^;;

before we only have one tv so we had to fight over for the remote. LOL but now, I have my own tv. but its broken! but I still don't fight for the remote anymore. my brother, who were always my competitor, lives with his wife in a different house now so I don't have to go against with anymore. only my nieces and nephews. but they can't do anything against me so basically I am the queen of the tv. LOL

In my house there is no remote control rules. If someone wants to watch some tv show we simply ask to change the channel. If we see that someone is watching something on television that we see is important, we don't even ask to change channel. I guess the only rule is to respect each other.

that's a good rule. but im not saying that we dont respect each other in our house. we all set the rules, we follow it, we respect it. so that's just good as saying we respect one another. ^__^

LOL sometimes that's how it is in our house. ^__^;; when I was a teenager I would wake up early just to be the first to open the tv. LOL but now I don't care anymore, its now my nieces and nephew who compete for the tv. me? I can butt in whenever I want too and they wouldn't have the courage to go against me. LOL

whoever gets to the television first! we have several tvs in the house, so the best one is the one my husband watches, as he likes the sports to big and loud, racing and anyother stupid guy show.. so i usually retreat to a quieter room, and watch what i want anyway.

there are so many good reasons to have more than one television! i cant believe i grew up in a home with one tv, one telephone (connected to the wall), and one bathroom... the tv had no remote then, and only a few channels, and we as children, were only allowed to watch tv as a family, usually on sunday nites like the wild animal kingdom or something like that.. and we actually watched the commercials without changing the channels inbetween! what a fun time that was anyway.!

no one really does. when there are a lot of good things on tv then we keep fighting and the lucky on e rules. if ther is nothing worthwhile then we keep passing thee remote to the other as it becomes bothersome to keep flipping the channels and not finding anythign worth watching!

well, we have regular channels to watch so its kinda everyday that fighting-over-the-remote happens. ^__^ during weekends the fighting lessens since some of the shows we watch are not shown during these days.

He rules the remote. He is bigger and he is faster and it is IMPORTANT to him, lol. No matter, I have Windows Media Center on my computer and can view whatever I want online. I love the captions because I can see and hear whatever he is watching while watching and reading the subtitles on my screen. Too kewl!

Generally, I think dad is the king... *wink* Since I was younger, dad has always had a command on the remote control. Good thing that at an early age, I have had my own television in my room so I didn't really had to compete with the remote control.

No hard or fast remote rule of ownership, whomever possesses it has temporary control. If there is a problem, I have final say; of course, knowing that this is the case, not many fights ensue. TV watching is pretty easy around my house.

Hi Bear, Saw this disucssion and wanted to share with you what goes on in our house! lol We never fight over it, well not to have it anyway. We fight about whos going to take it. I find myself making rules like the last person with it has it for the next 24 hours. LOL There is nothing on anymore, and all we do is sit and flip through the channels, and that gets boring. We basically play hot potato in our house with the remote control. Bay Lay Gray xx

Haahahah...this is cool1 The one who rules the remote control of the tv in our house is the person who gets hold of it first. That has been a rule for us since we were kids. But now we do not fight over a tv remote anymore. We have three tvs in our house so there is nothing to fight over.

that's a good rule. it also means taht whoever wants to hog the TV has to come back home fast. in my household i'm not much of a tv fan and only recently got cable tv. so guess who gets run of the remote? ah well, not that i care very much. most times I'd rather curl up with a book and be a (book)worm than curl up on the couch and be a potato.

i love reading books too but i love watching tv more. there aren't rules anymore in our house because we have two tvs and most of us have the same favorite shows. they have the same favorite shows, i'm the only one that differs so i have my own tv. ^__^

I have only one rule in my house for the remote. You touch my remote, I brake your fringers all the way to your sholder. LOL! Kidding. We have a room mate and the rule about my tv in the living room is that it is mine and Jay's tv and everyone dose not touch it. The roommate rents a room from us and he has a tv in his room and I feel that if for some reason if he breaks my tv or the $100 remote that he would not replace it. I am right about this because he has already broken one of my $100 remotes while he was house sitting when Jay and I want on vacation. He said that he did not break it. But the only problem with that is that he was the only one here or was to be the only one here. The other rule I have is no one in my house that I don't know when I am not here.

its really not easy when there's someone in your house that you don't really know and who doesn't know you. sometimes its hard to make them understand about rules and stuffs. when i was living in a boarding house, i was so careful not to break any rules. it was hard for me but i guess it was hard for my landlord too.

It depends on the time of the day. When it is cartoon schedules, my kids rules. When it primetime shows, it's me. But when my husband is around, he is and me alternatively.

adults rule! ^__^;; in our house there's a new big boss. my 3-year old nephew. LOL when he wants his favorite show on, he'd throw tantrums and we can't do anything about it unless we can divert his attention to other things. ^__^;;

I have 2 TVs. It's just me and the husband, so if he's watching some boring golf show or something, I'll go to the bedroom and watch the other TV. We don't have any rules as far as the usage goes. I ask him to leave it on in the mornings if he's the last to leave so my cats will have something to listen to, but that's about it.
