With debit cards there is no interest. The money comes directly our of your bank account.

There are currently two ways that debit card transactions are processed. Online debit (also known as PIN debit) and offline debit (also known as signature debit). In some countries including the United States and Australia, they are often referred to at point of sale as "debit" and "credit" respectively, even though in either case the user's bank account is debited and no credit is involved. Many debit cards are of the Visa or MasterCard brand, there are many other types of debit card, each accepted only within a particular country or region, for example Switch (now: Maestro) and Solo in the United Kingdom, Carte Bleue in France, Laser in Ireland, "EC electronic cash" (formerly Eurocheque) in Germany and EFTPOS cards in Australia and New Zealand. The need for cross-border compatibility and the advent of the euro recently led to many of these card networks (such as Switzerland's "EC direkt", Austria's "Bankomatkasse" and Switch in the United Kingdom) being rebranded with the internationally recognised Maestro logo, which is part of the MasterCard.

You can get them from any bank you have an account with.

Debit cards take the money directly out of your bank account. This means that you have to have the money there or else the shops etc will refuse your payment. I think its a good thing to use these as it means you can only spend what you have and not more like you can on a credit card.

A debit card is hooked up to your own savings - so while you can use it like a credit card you're actually just spending your own money (rather than the banks - so no interest etc) of course that means that you need to have the money in the bank before you can use your debit card - which is a good thing :-)

A credit card in the wallet is a monster like thing in the wallet and a debit card is as like a moth in your wallet. If you are too frequent to use these things and if it's too critical for you to move with some money in your wallet then only you should posses these monster or the moth in your wallet I think. The crdit cards suck you through the high intrest rates & the service charges for every transaction. The debit card though not charge you the intrest but un-necessarily take some service charge that to in proportion to the amount you spend which is totally an injustice to you. How much money you need to sped after all? How much you need in your wallet on daily basis? Do you have to go shopping so frequently that you can't even plan or guess the amount needed? If your calculations & planning about your shopping and expences are within a limit I think you should not hold any of the card in your wallet. My friendly advise to you is 1. Don't spend more in the life but just save it for tomorrow. 2. Do not buy the things which you don't need that badly. 3. Justify your expences, shopping, luxuary, for every penny you handle, because a penny once lost is lost for ever. 4. The money comes to you with snails speed So it should not go away like a race horse. 5. your boss in yourself should not pass your any bill unless varifies & justifies it twice. 6. Earn fast & spend slow! Can you do that? Wish you all the best.

A debit card works the same as a credit card except you must have the money in your account (usually a savings acount) to cover the purchase. I work in Thailand, and when I go home to Australia I don't have to worry about taking a large amount of money with me, as I can withdraw from most ATMs from my Thai savings account. There are some outlets that won't acept debit cards, but they are becoming less and less. Try it!

Like everyone else said it works like a credit card and the money comes out of your bank or savings account. I love my debit card. No interest and since i get direct deposit from my job I usually have some funds in my account. Look around at banks in your area and open an account if you don't have one already.
