I have found some posts here at mylot which are directly copied from wikipedia. But it is strictly forbidden. Do you look at wiki before posting? Thats not a restriction, so don't worry to reply.

I certainly don't use it because copying from such sites would be accused of plagiarism although sometimes I get some points there but I usually used it with extra care like paraphrasing it because it was a copyrighted material.

I have used wikipedia to answer several questions here. I haven't been around long enough to copy and paste, so I paraphrase longer sections, and I always give full credit to Wikipedia for any paraphrase or direct quote.

Frankly i agree that i do refer WIKIPEDIA but i read the whole article there and post only some points which are relevant for the discussion here in my own way . So i hope i am not violating the rules. I didn't knew before that its strictly forbidden to copy from wikipedia. But i don't think in general that its an offense to read or refer some other site for learning and answering. Why is it an offense? After all INTERNET is for learning and teaching/sharing with others. What do you say? :)

I don't think quoting from other sites is forbidden if you give proper credit. Plagurism is forbidden. Just make sure you credit your sources, wiki or otherwise!

I do refer Wiki but do not directly copy paste it. If I do so, then why the person should post this in the forum. he or she can directly go to Wiki and finds himself. I like to give my own opinions based on my experiences and from other's experiences..

I think plain copypaste is disgusting, but I don't see why it may be "strictly forbidden" to consult it, in fact if you properly cite is very useful. Of course if you're redacting something you must put comething of you on it ;) as I said, plain copypaste is disgusting.

Nah... almost never. I just write what I know and what I have learned from life and something I have experiance about. Wikipedia is a great knowledge source so I like to look there but not for answering discussions, instead I just use my head. (100 post) :)

I usually do it, for checking if I am right or wrong about the discussion, to search for new information, to check the discussion. Altough I do not do it only with wikipedia it is the first place I look when I need it on some discussion.

I have actually never even thought about doing this, but I think for certian discussions, getting a correct answer from wikipedia would actually be a good idea as long as you write your post in your own words and dont copy identically.

Yes I have before, but rather than copy and paste I would rather just put the link to the article. It seems like it would make the most sense to me. I am not sure if it is plagiarism as the stuff on wikipedia is free from copyright, it tells us on their site. That is why people are allowed to write materials with their site. Have a nice day. I use to use Wikipedia a lot more. But since there have been questions about it's accuracy, I haven't really thought about using it lately. I never thought about posting anything from that site on to this one. I always use more than on source, even when it is coming from an "authority" on a subject. Most of the time I look up medical things and every doctor does not agree, so I must get a second or third opinion. It is however, an excellent source of information, as long as it is accurate.
