Do you breastfeed? How important was it to you?

I am pregnant with my fourth child and 2 of my others were breastfed. I plan to breastfeed this one as well. It is very important to me because I feel that it creates a bond that cannot be broken and it is also very healthy, not only for the baby but for your recovery as well. People that I have spoken to don't really think it is important around here. What are your thoughts on it? How many of you breastfeed or is it a tradition that is fading? I feel it should be the only option if possible...

First of all Congratulation for your pregnancy... I brestfed my son when he was a baby, not only because it was considered the best option for us but I found it convenient and I also like the bonding between mother and son. We are very close now and I think one of the reason is because he was breasfed. Now I 'm expecting second baby in few weeks and I will definately brest fed my baby as well. And also for exactly the same reason as it was with my first. Good luck for your pregnancy...xx

Good luck to you as well! I too loved the convenience! I mine usually would wake for nursing every 1-2 hours at first and it was so nice to just be able to pull them out of the co-sleeper or bassinet next to the bed and nurse! No bottles or mixing or warming! SO EASY! And talk about packing a light diaper bag!!!

I have one little girl and she's 17 months old, but I did nurse her for the first 9 months (had to stop b/c wasn't producing enough milk). I think it's wonderful to do as long as it's right for you b/c then it will be right for your baby. I wasn't sure what I was going to do when I had her, until I had her. Then I knew that I wanted to nurse. I do know some people that chose not to nurse for whatever reason and I think they are valid in why they don't. It shouldn't be something that is forced b/c then your baby picks up on it & it's likely to not work if your heart isn't in it.. so to say it should be the only option-- I disagree. Some people can't nurse for medical reasons as well. I think that if people want to nurse, they should because it does create such a close bond-- also good for their health etc. etc. It's really just a personal choice and you have to do what you are comfortable with and happy with. That's all that matter.s

I have nursed both of my boys. My oldest weaned himself at nine months, and we had to switch him over to formula until he was old enough for cows milk. My youngest, has been acting like he wants to wean already, and is only 6 months, (it makes me wonder if I don't produce enough milk for them?) BUt I love nursing. It can be inconvienant at times but it is special, and sweet, and there is nothing like it. I will miss it terribly if my six month old decides he is done nursing.

you sound very much like me. i didnt nurse my first child but i did with children 2, 3 and 4. i think that it was the best bonding time ever. i am still nursing my fourth child who is just about 16 months old. we will be nursing for about another 2 -3 months. i enjoyed it so much and i am a little sad that it is close to the end. he is my last baby. no number 5 in my future so i want it to last as long as possible, without going into something creepy...like a 4 yr old nursing...lol. good luck with your 4th child. i feel that the 4th is the one to put you over the line into insanity..see you on the other side of the line...lol!! just messing around..it is awesome. i dont know how old your other kids are..mine are 10, 4, 2 1/2 and 16 months so you see why i am insane, right? 3 kids in 3 yrs....ouch!! lol..but its all good!!

I'm a Chinese,Here every one thinks having breakfast is very important. Now I'm in college ,every day I eat breakfast,it gives me energy in the morning,or I'll be hungry and absent-minded. But in weekend I always stay up to midnight or later, so I haven't to have it ,I think it isn't a good habit. I advise you to breakfeed your baby,it's good for her. (By the way ,my English is not good, hope you can understand me.)
