What are some 'nesting' type things you did when pregnant?

I don't know if I'm unusual or not, but I'm nearly 38 weeks and haven't really felt very 'nesty'. I don't have much energy to clean, and my to-do list is a mile long! Maybe my instincts will kick in in the next week or so.. meanwhile, I thought maybe hearing some other mother's tales of nesting might motivate me! What did you do to prepare your nest when you were expecting?

I have three children, and with my first one I got really concerned that I wasn't exhibiting any nesting behavior. Of course, it was one of those paranoid first-time-mom things to worry about; I started thinking that I wasn't going to have any maternal instincts at all, that I would fail, etc. Then at about 39 weeks or so, I got the overpowering urge to rearrange the nursery. At 2am. There I was, bigger than a water buffalo, and I was hauling around a big heavy crib/dresser/toddler bed combo and all the other crap I had in that room. I got it all done - it was like I was driven by some weird force to do it and couldn't stop until I finished it. The joke was on me, though, because we didn't even PUT the baby in that room until she was about six months old and she outgrew her bassinette!

Funny! well, at least you didn't have to try to rearrange it with a tiny baby in the house, I guess. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about... that 'spurt of energy'... and everyone keeps asking if I'm 'nesting', and I'm not sure I know what to say, because more than anything I just feel heavy, bloated, and ready to have a baby! Clean the fridge? Yeeaaah... right! Fun..

HaHa!! I remember being so dog-tired at the end of the day that I didn't feel very 'nesty' either! I worked at the hospital during all my pregnancies. However, I do remember that strangely, right before each birth, I did get this spurt of energy! The most vivid was with the birth of my third child. I was going to clean that linen closet out or die!!! Took everything out, refolded and rearranged all the items. Washed down the shelves. Strange.....

Yes, I've heard about this elusive 'spurt of energy'... wonder where mine is hiding?

I haven't got the chance to design a nursery or even a crib for our son before I gave birth. All I did was pack up our bags for the hospital around my 35th week and make a list for my husband to do during our hospital stay.

I really never nested. I kept waiting for that burst of energy before you go into labor but it never happened. I was 3 weeks late and I really enjoyed laying in bed watching television. I had verry little energy by the end. So don't worry if you never nest, I sure didn't.

I wasn't any different to you, i didn't nest! My Mum was expecting me to come in to the nesting stage but it never happened so she ended up being the one that came to do my hosuework - not because i wouldn't but because she's a clean freak & there's a big difference between my clean & her clean!!! I never had the energy either so i never did what most pregnant women do but it's normal, some women just dont get nesty! Good luck with the pregnancy!

I washed dishes and did laundry a lot. I even washed baby clothes just so I could fold them and put them away, heh. I also did a lot of baking.

Maybe I'm expecting to feel something different and instinctual... I did wash all the baby clothes and put them away yesterday, and I set up the baby swing and cleaned the kitchen... I hear women talk of this primal urge to scrub their baseboards and re-arrange cabinets, and I just don't know if I'll feel that way!

I didn't nest until the day before my son was born. I didn't do laundry pretty much the entire time I was pregnant (my doctor advised it against it because of my back). The day that I went to the hospital, I did four loads of laundry! I even put them all away, too. My husband got up (he was working nights) and was so surprised. Once he got up, I started bossing him around, too. I made him help me rearrange our bedroom and I cleaned the bathroom. Then we went and ate and I knew I was having the baby soon! LOL We ate around 5 and then went home and my husband took a nap while I timed contractions. We ended up at the hospital at around 10 that night.
