Do you prefer to watch the movie or read the book to the same movie. I love to read and books seem to add alot more detail than the movie. The movie gives you a nice visual. I have found that most books were better than the movie. What do you think?

Same here. A lot of times they alter a lot in a movie to make it more cinematic. But I do like to watch them still. Books on the other hand lets your imagination run. It's more detailed and for me is more memorable.

I agree, the book is a better go. The book gives you the opportunity to use your imagination. I like to read the books then go see the movies, sometimes the ending is different also. (Another good question)

Thanks stiff.. I agree I like to compare the two. I was in a book club before. We cose to read books that had movies out and we would analyze the two.

I do agree that most books are better then movies although I have known a few exceptions. I like to do both really. Sometimes though I don't know they are books until after I've seen the movie. Once I do know if I liked the movie I'll try and read the book. If the movie was really bad I probably won't get the book. I do agree that the books have more details, normally anway, then the movies do. The books can go into more where as the movie is limited to so much time and that can hurt it.

Its definitely reading the book. Most of the movie weren't able to explain the characters and moods in a precise manner. I rarely watch movie as the cost of the movie ticket is ridiculously high. I often went to a shop where I can borrow the newest release of books at a minimal fee. :)

Yeah just wait for the movie to go to the dollar show. I usually get the movid on dvd once released.

It would definitely be the book for me. I like reading the book and would watch the movie if there is one. But from experience, almost 100% of the time, the movie is definitely not as good as the book. I like to see the special effects and the director's interpretation of the story though.

101% agree. And this applies specifically to Harry Potter movies. Most of the funny events are edited out of the film, which makes me disappointed at some point. But of course, including everything would make the film about half a day long. lol. :-)

Yep! can you imagine a day long movie. Although we probably watch tv all day. But the same thing for a day would be boring

I know most people aren't going to like me saying this, especially since I work in a library, but I sometimes like to see the movie before I read the book. If I like or am interested in the movie, I am more likely to want to read to book to find out more or to learn the "true" story. I am always disappointed when I read the book first. I always find that they changed the story or took out a lot of important details when I read the book first and see the movie afterwards. I usually enjoy the book much more when I read it after I've seen the movie. Sometimes, I have questions left over from the movie and the book answers them much better. Many times, after I watch the movie and read the book, I have found the book to be better.

You are absolutely right. If you read the book first you are looking for things to happen in the movie that was written in the book. I guess that's whats to be expected giving movies are very expensive and they try to crame a book into 2 hours. So it is understandable why the book is more interesting!!

I don't read all the books of movies that I have watched but the ones that I do do both I usually prefer to read the book first before watching the movie. So far I have always found the book to be better, this is probably because the book is exactly the way the author intended whereas the movies are often changed quite a bit from the original. Also special effects in movies can be good but the are no better special effects than those that the imagination can conjure up after all that is where the original ideas come from.

I prefer reading a book to watching a movie, especially if it was in book form first. There are a lot of novelizations of screenplays that really don't improve on the movie that much. The problem with comparing novels to movies is that they are such totally different mediums. That's why many books do not work well as a movie, or why they seem very different in movie form.

i prefer to read the book first before i watch the movie. i wanted to compare which parts were deleted or which parts where over emphasized. i like reading books because as you said, it is more detailed and you have to have a good imagination to picture what is really happening and how does the scene looks like. it is still better if you read the book because it stimulates not only your eyes but your mind as well.

books are better. after all it allows you to exercise your imagination. movies delete some important details from the book. for me it is a type of murder... :p...
