Replacing hard drive | | I started a discussion recently about problems with my laptop. I have a Toshiba Satellite and I'm pretty sure now the hard drive is fried, due to a bad fan that overheated. I am going to try to replace the hard drive (easy) and fan (hard) myself. So, my questions is this, if anyone knows. The original hard drive was 60GB, 4200rpm. As long as it is the same size and interface, can I put an 80GB or even 120GB in there? Does anyone know if my OS (Windows XP) will be on my recovery disk, or will I have to buy a new copy of XP? The recovery disk is supposed to have the modified XP on it that is to say the same XP you see when you fist got the laptop... My husband told me that. I couldn't have answered your question to save my life. I know nothing about computers and he has built several computers himself.

And the only thing that makes your copy of XP unique is the serial number, so you can reinstall XP again from any disk as long as you put in your serial number.
