A PTC site that asks for copy of ID or utility bill to get paid.....

What do you think about PTC sites that require you to submit to them a copy of your ID or utility bill in order to get paid? I can in part, see that they want to verify a person is doing this ad not a bot but at the same time, since a member is paid through AlertPay - and alert pay doesn't require that , why does the PTC site need to be concerned? They monitor for cheaters constantly, have the one account per ISP, all the stipulations for payment - what does a copy of the ID or utility bill do for them other than have your personal info - and now you have to wonder what they are going to do with your personal information - I dont see how that helps them determine if you are who you say you are - both can be manipulated. I mean, you do what they ask and keep within their TOS, yet when it comes time for them to do their part, they want more from you for the little they are paying you. Any comments? I ask as one i am on is now asking for that. If it was about couple hundred dollars I might not be as inclined to wonder, but when we are talking literrally $10 or less over months time...just seems odd and more work for both sides over...what?

That sounds dubious. Some places will ask to see stuff like that to verify your identity, if you're opening a bank account or applying for credit, but why would they need to see it to pay you money? Especially as what they're asking for is extremely useful for stealing your identity, and they expect you to give it to someone you've never met.

My thoughts exactly and we are literally talking about pennies and a few bucks! It'd cost them more than that ink to print it all out! I figure it might be something about more than one account per ISP or something like that or maybe bots but still...PayPal and Alert Pay are honest places and all and that is where the payment goes... oh well, I'll tread lightly!

I once had someone ask me to send copies of both the front and back of my credit card in order to purchase something from them, webhosting I think. Needless to say, I didn't buy it. That sort of information simply isn't required for stuff like this.

I was working on a site something like that too, coffeebreak. I don't work that site anymore. After working the site for over a year and recieving payouts from them several times in that year, they one day said they wanted proof as to who I am. They wanted a copy of a utiltiy bill or bank statement or drivers license. They said it was to stop the cheaters that they find are in their site. I didn't give them the information and I now am not working the site anymore. So, yes it has happened to me too. I know it wasn't the same site you are talking about because the one I am talking about the minimum payout was only $1.00, not $10.00 like yours. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good day, your friend Chris

Wow - after all that time... I can understand them being careful and particular about things to head off cheaters and all, but they get so deliberate sometimes, that they run off the honest ones - not cause they have anything to hide, but simply cause over the pennies a couple bucks we are talking about - us honest ones don't want to give out personal info that can be used for who knows what for sure! I forget at the mmoent, which on this was, I tink I joined it, but hav a list I am looking into - but this one said they will pay the first time, and then to get paid the second time you have to do this - so I'll just wait till the balance gets up there and cash out and if they don't like me, I'll go elsewhere...if I bother with them at all! Thanks for mentioning

It sounds like a phishing scam. I've been on the internet a long time and I've never heard of any site asking for that kind of information. Don't give it to them. If you've already joined the site, delete any information you've already given them, and ask to have your account closed. If they won't close it, just sign out, and erase any cookies they've placed on your computer. If it's a site that people are promoting on Mylot, you might also post a warning discussion, and maybe report any referral discussions about it to Mylot.

I am still investigating it but yes, if it is like this for sure, I willpost about it. I dont' have my info in front of me but I believe it was one that said they'd pay the first time, but second cash out they required this. I of course won't be giving it to them.. maybe just let it all sit and cash out once and be done with them

That is personal information that I would in no way share with people who do not reveal their own identities to the members. Imagine if you asked one of the program owners for a copy of his or her ID! Can you imagine them complying? I would run very fast in the opposite direction from that one--just the same as I do from survey's that ask which banks we use or the amount of money we have in investments. Confidential, my eye.

I think I will ask them that - if you want me as a member, please send me for ID so I can see if you are for real or a scam... since the reason you are asking me for mine is to see if I am honest or a cheater... Think they'll respond? like, sure they will!

Hi,coffeebreak, NO way should you send anyone a copy of your bills or anything else. Be very wary of this kind of site or anyone who asks you to do that. No matter how much you are owed, you should not send them any information like that. They have no right to ask for it. Me personally,I would get out of that site in a hurry. Best of luck to you. Have a good night.

I appreciate the comment. I was wondering if it was something new they were starting. I am not going to waste my time over pennies - even if I did give out that info. I guess I could understand if a member was getting huge huge payments every month - but even then...if they are prudent in their own book keeping and keeping track of things, they wouldn't need it either, they'd already know if there was a problem

I am positive that it's a scam.. don't give out any info about yourself.. most especially your bank account.. i've been doing online opportunities for years and i never encountered companies asking for a copy of ID or utility bill.. be careful..

YesI agree that there is no reason for id just for pennies. The firm should have a name and address and telephone number for contact so that they can be written to and even a phone call can be made before submitting vital info.

Nope. that would be a no-no for me. I understand that they might be trying to ascertain the members identity for tax purposes, but this is an internet site where each member will be making such a small amount of money....I would not do this. They could keep their 0.0000001 cents a day for all I care LOL

I didn't think you would. But like you, I do believe that it might be going that way. The only thing that might stop it is the fact that many people won't do it and they will have to revert to what they were doing before or loose money themselves.
