I just read on the papers that a recent studies show how social networking can lead to health hazards. I kinda agree with it some how. That sitting behind a computer to socilize with people is so easy. And so comfortable too cos we can do away with the initial awkwardness of meeting face to face. But the concerns about more people prefering to meet via the internet rather than a face to face meet up is also a cause of concern. Health issues aside, we are all humans. And humans all need companionship. Can the online friends we have really replace the real life friends we meet? I mean, we a whole list of things we can do when we meet up with the people we know. A smiling face is always so much better to see than a 2D picture on the computer screen. At least that is what I feel. How can those warm feelings of shaking a person's hand, or even hugging a friend, be replaced by a keyboard and a few emoticons on a flat screen of light? After reading this article, it does makes me wonder, are we evolving into hermit crabs were we only venture out of our shell only when the need arises (like looking for food, or getting our mail... etc)? Will we end up one day like Angela Bennett in the movie THE NET where no one knows of her existance in real life?

Well, I don't see it as hazardous as I only add my real friends? Those especially have gone overseas or out of town? In fact it's through these places like Facebook that I find those long lost ones that went off into oblivion, hahaSo when they're back in town we usually will still go out & yam cha, hahaIt's true that a 2D photo can never replace the real life person, I agree with you totally on that one!~

Yeah... I know what you mean. But reading the article, it seems that people are adding more than just the real friends they know. So, I am not surprised if they do get only loads of online friends but no one in real life. It is a worrying trend.

AH Angela bennett. So true. I would say that I don't see that much harm on social networking if it wasn't for the fact that we are humans and tend to do things in excess. No balance - Yeah I know I keep saying that:) but it's true -. As it is, I can see the risks and foresee that maybe not all, but a lot of people will indeed end up like angela bennett:)

Yeah, very true.. Other than that, being involved in social networking sites, does not even make one more socialable at all.. INstead, thsoe ple are actually tryign to find their confidence in those sites as they need not see nor introduce themselves, face to face.. lol =D AMybe i shoud say, it's due to lack of confidence that pushes them into the trend of social networking site?? lol =D Nothing can beat meeting a friend in real person, because the feeling is entirely different.. Topics generated between the two are different, and there are expressions to be seen and shown too.. haha =D U are right in saying, about emotions as there's a limit to how much a emoticon can show and they cant fully represent our true feeling to some things being said or even done ^_^ haha

I agree it can be very bad if it's our only means of communication. It can be very addicting to some and cause them to lose touch with relationships they already have. Your right it keeps us from the initial feeling of unease as we meet new people but we need that to strengthen our skills as you said.

Yeah... that is what I feel too. The addiction to socializing on the net is very strong at times.
