Do you like it when people ask your age? - Photo showing a birthday cake for a 50 yr old.

How old are you? 28. Father with 2 sons: Oh gosh, you are in the prime of your life. So young, just like a baby. I hate it when people comment on my age this way. 28 is certainly not young in my opinion. I feel as old as a wrinkled potato and I hate people reminding me of it. How old are you? 28. 18 yr old teenager: Geez, I am so sorry! Uncle, I didn't mean to probe... I just thought you might want to do soccer one of these days but... guess you are too old for it. Oh thank you kiddie. I have been 18 yr old before so I don't need you to remind me of the stage you are currently at. Either way my age is perceived (I have yet to come across a response that says it is the perfect age for whatever), I would rather the question be not asked in the first place. It also irks me when people like to ask me my age (whether deliberately or otherwise) during my birthday meals. Then they will start to try calculate it out l-o-u-d when I try to shrug it off. Somehow, some people just don't get it. So, do you like it when people ask you your age? A resounding YES!? A sombre no? Do you desperately try to raise the question yourself? Do you pretend your ears are stuck? What is your thought on people asking you your age?

It doesn't bother me when people ask my age , I am 66 and proud of it , I think age is only a number , I know lots of young people who act a lot older than me :) , My youngest is the same age as you wizzy and he can be very sombre at times too , My eldest who is 45 is always asking me when I am going o grow up . WHY?? I am getting old but I am not in any hurry to grow up :) So nice to see you again too :) Wee xx

for me i don't really like it because every year goes so fast that i can't remember how old i am. i'm 20 going on 21 soon and still when someone asks i forget and say 18, it's so lame, plus, when people ask they usually go on about how young i am and blah blah blah usually making comments that i'm young, i have lots of time. Seriously to those people, blow it out your behind.

same as time really, everyone's always going on about 'wasting time' sorry how is it possible to waste time? Time is a man made concept to organize everything furiously, i prefer to go by the sun, I'm an odd one, i like to wake up as the sun goes down, but most people, if they would forget about time, their lives would be so much calmer and they would have more 'time' for the things they enjoy. Oh and about age, what is it with people thinking that because your something under 30 that you don't have a brain? Gosh that drives me nuts. I may be 20 but I'm not stupid. I would just love it if for one day, one day only, people could see others for their intellect and experiences rather than judge them by their age.

I am quite like you in that sometimes I will forget how old I am. It is only I kept reminding myself perversely these days that I remember this particular year. I always tend to think myself as younger. Really, I think age is something invented by overly bored people. If we did not have the calendar, no one needs to worry about aging. Rather, the focus would be more geared towards leading fulfilling lives instead.

It doesn't bother me at all now, it did when I was 28 though. I'm now 54 but my grandson adds the two numbers together and we are both 9. It's good to get past 50 then you can behave as old or as young as you like and enjoy it. It's not my age that makes me feel old, it's when people ask how old my girls are now.

Please don't take you age so seriously I had areally hard time with that now that i'll be forty in a few weeks. When just have to keep ourselves healthy and distracted. After all age is only a number. Like I said I'm going to 40 at the end of Aprila nd I'm not really scared, because I'm comfortable with just being who I am, alometimes I'm not quite sure of my self. But if you really try to put other things in front of you to keep you busy pretty soon it may not bother you again. Why don't you just plan special 1 on 1 time with you grandkids and then spend some time pampering yourself and if you an't afford to go out and do it do it at home, take a nice long shower or bubble bath and realx and I'm sure things will pass. Nothing lasts for ever. Good luck to you and I hope you can some up withsome sort of arrangent that will back you all happy or at least make it bearable. Best of Luck!~D P. S. Try to have a great time.

Greetings oh wizardly one, It doesn't bother me at all. I'm 44 years of age. I've done an incredible amount of living in four decades, and I plan to do an even more incredible amount of living in the next four, or five, or ... Do I feel any different than I did twenty-five years ago? Sure I do! I'm alot wiser and much more confident in my abilities. Time is definitely not the enemy of anyone who genuinely appreciates every minute of it!

It depends who is doing the asking. I am the age I am, happy to be so and luckier than some that did not get this far. If it is a person my own age asking then I have no qualms at all and just the same if it is a person older. However when it is a person younger... sometimes I'm sad they asked because I would sooooo like to be able to say that I am an age nearer to the one I presume they are. Not always, just sometimes but then that's just wishful thinking So I skip the question, forget they asked and we all live happily ever after

I don't usually put down my age for profiles. In fact I think myLot is the only one that I can recall that I have done so. I just thought that I am comfortable enough in this community and I don't want to play hide and seek so heck, I dumped my age there and myLot even so thoughtfully increments it on my birthdays.

In your case it's written in your profile so no-one would be likely to ask right? Amazing how some never appear the age that is stated there though... *sigh*

I don't seem to mind, usually I tell them. But, in perspective, those who have seen 28 pass by long ago can't help to see it as being young. I'm over 40 and I've got people in their 50s and 60s thinking I'm just a kid, too.

Well put it this way, usually we would think all who are younger than us as SO YOUNG. As for those who are older than us, we tend to think OH NO, I DON'T WANT TO BE THAT OLD SO SOON.

I wouldn't mind telling people my age. I do not try to ask the question myself. But during certain conversations, it just has to come up. Friend A: Oh god, I feel so old! Everything is just not going my way. I feel I have not done anything with my life! Life is so unfair to me! I feel so weary and used... etc etc ME: Goodness! How old are you? Younger than me by a good XX years and you are complaining like an old man who is nearing retirement age already! But most of the time, I just listen to what ever is dished my way when I tell people my age when asked. It just gives me an insight to what this person is thinking about people who are my age and what they perceive at their age, what is good or bad. For you my friend, you are young! And a father of two kids already? Well well, that, to me, is some success already. heh heh... how old are your kids already?

Alot of people think I'm alot younger than I am. I don't act my age.. I even forget how old I am (unless someone asks and then I have to subtract the year I was born from the current year) Sometimes after I figure this up or give them the numbers to use (some say the total out loud) I'm surprised!! My daughter is going on 21 and everyone thinks I'm her older sister.(I was 21 when I had her) I attribute my youthful appearance to good genes and memory loss! **If I'm not constantly reminded of my age I don't think about how old I am and stick with a number for a couople years at a time..**

I think it's a good thing to forget your age! It's just another number to remember and I have plenty of other numbers to remember that don't change every year!! It gets to the point where age hardly matters. It's the company you keep and what you do and say I think...... My theory is that if you think and act old, constantly watch the clock and worry about gray hair, you're mind & body age faster. I have a brother that was completely gray by 18. My sister's 3 years older and acts & looks like she's 15 years older than me. my ex was the same age as me and looked like he was 10. I think alot of it's in your mindset.

.......alot of the time younger people think they're older than me and I make the remark that "oh, you're just a baby" and might tell them my age. some take offense to it but I don't mean it in a bad way, just that I've been there done that and have done so much more since. We learn, grow and change constantly. Maybe I should quit using that comment.

I don't mind at all. But I once met a girl called me "auntie", she was 20 and I was 26, I hate this very much. I was also 20 once, when I was 20 I never said that kind of speech, as I really don't laugh at other age. I think I will pretend I don't hear the question at the first place, if he/she keeps questioning, I think I would ask he/she "why do I need to tell you?". And I will not mind myself aging, as it is normal in life.

I was once called an Uncle by a 12 yr old kid and I was 18 then. Yup, I don't laugh at people's age either. We all grow old. This is one inviolate fact of life so laughing at someone older is like laughing at yourself.

I never had a problem dealing with the "how old are you" question. What offends me is the next comment people say after i tell them my age..."I thought you are older than your sister (2 years older than me) or I thought you have the same age as your husband (who is 11 years older than me!!!)"

I like it when people ask my age because most of the time they are shocked when I tell them and seeing the looks of amazement on their faces is quite a compliment. It's not just one or two people in the past but a lot of people who have enquired about my age and when I have told them they have said NO! Sometimes I enjoy playing a game with them and turning it around and asking them how old they think I am! Naturally they might lie or want to be flattering, but most get it wrong and always say I am younger than I really am. So it can be a good thing to respond too.

Now a days, I don't mind people asking my age. I am 29 years old. The only thing that concerns me is that when people asked me you are already 29 and not still married or like hasn't able to find a girl for marriage. This sometimes upset me because I would I am 29 years old and if I didn't find a girl to marriage within one year, I might not be able to get married. I also sometimes gets upset when someone asks me my age when I chat in the yahoo chat because most people would be younger and they would not chat when I say the age. Otherwise, I don't have problem when anyone ask me my age.

I've reached a period in my life where I don't mind being asked my age, just so long as they don't follow with, "Oh, I thought you were older." Being this old has at least one advantage - senior citizen discounts.

I don't mind. I don't see the point of it really because people show bias when they know your age. They'd either listen to you because they think you've had good life experiences or they won't because they think you're too young to know anything about the world - what about just listening and deciding based on your words if you're wise or not? That would make things simpler :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Nah, it don't bother me to be asked my age. Age is just a number and it's what you make of it. I think if you mentally feel 50, your body is gonna think that as well and be worn down. If you you mentally feel 21, then your body is gonna adjust. Positive additude towards age is how I look at things. I am 28, and I like my age.
