Stop SOPA and PIPA! It's As Political As I Will Ever Get.

So you wanna stop internet piracy? Well, if ya didn't like American government before ya gonna like us even less now. SOPA and PIPA in a nutshell wants to stop piracy (remember we already have laws for that. Can you say NAPSTER?), but it sounds like our government wants to control the internet and Canadian internet and "we" also want to make sure the rest of the world bows to our internet rules. Just think if you've ever linked a YouTube video to FaceBook or Twitter or I would suspect to MyLot, you, if SOPA passes, will be shut down or arrested or fined. Yeah, of course, it's the little people like you and me that will take the blame. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google and other internet giants as well small Indie internet businesses will not survive this bill. Unfortunately, SOPA probably won't stop piracy either. And our senators admit they don't really know what wording of the bill means, or even says. And they admit they don't really understand how the internet works. Today, January 18th 2012, big internet companies went dark...offline...you can't get to them. Try going to wikipedia or Google has a semi blackout, or Reddit. Anyhow, here's Yahoo's explanation of SOPA. Watch the video. It says it all. http://www.digitaltrends.com/web/mozilla-asks-users-to-join-stop-sopa-pipa-campaign/ Oh, by the way, this is the first time I agree with President Obama, go figure. He has taken a stand against SOPA but apparently he can't fight Hollywood. Yeah, Hollywood is the main biggie supporter of SOPA. Should tell ya something. How much do you know about SOPA and PIPA?

I do know what it is REALLY about. It is not about hurting caused by piracy but centralizing a cashflow. Take out a lot of internet freedoms and you limit the sources. People pay them MORE, because they have few, if any, alternatives. Do not think for once that Hollywood is all legitimate business either. They never have been, never will be. They are not hurting because of piracy, but movie quality as fewer good films are being produced in their studios. Sure the budget is big but everything else is growing stale or just half-baked. I think Hollywood is just trying to compensate for their failures in filming by centralizing a bigger cashflow. Even legitimate sites are going to be affected as they try to manipulate the government. All-in-all, think it is about time to just stop being nice and fight a bit meaner. Actually cause damage, not caring if it kills some industries in the process. It is obvious we will have to eventually to save our economy since there are businesses that (like Hollywood) are just trying to flex more power over the people and this will just hurt the country more. It is a poor image that government officials can be superseded by a single industry. Yeah, I know I'm suggesting a tall order, but it is obvious that Hollywood has grown too big to be good for the country. It is almost as bad as a country being run by mobsters or mafia. Then again, lol, depending on who, maybe that'd not be AS bad if they have good ethics. But I digress, it isn't a good thing for America or its people. Everyone should be focusing on improving the country, not more limitations, especially not on something as trivial as this that is not directly hurting anybody. This is like killing a fly with... an atomic bomb, really.

Our senators will be of big help to us then. NOT. I can understand Hollywood's stake in all of this BUT I am sure there is a customer friendly way of going about it. I wonder what senators will do to help themselves understand the bills better. I think the person who puts the video on YouTube should be sited not the people who use it after it is there. I wonder what will come of all of this.

Unfortunately, as it stands, YouTube will be penalized for not being able to "police" their site enough. Which probably means if you have a YouTube account with your own videos on it (ones you've completely created yourself) you'll be breaking the law. Guilty by association I guess. About those senators ... the senator who co-wrote the bill now believes it's a badly written bill and will not stop piracy. He's pulled out his vote, so to speak. That's the last I heard.

Its such an awful law. I remember how a single mom is used for downloading songs on kazaa when everyone is like guilty for doing that. the law is just ridicolous, nobody owns the internet. no one is going to benifit from it. if they claim copyright for a youtube video , youtube will actually take it down. youtube gives them free promotion and they want it to be shutdown, ridicoulous. they were making millions of dollars, why being greedy. people who support pirated stuff will still never buy their DVD's cos they cant afford it.

Yep, like we've said before, SOPA will not stop piracy or copy right infringements. These things, of course, need to be dealt with. Unfortunately, SOPA and PIPA will harm the process more than help. It really is an awful law.

These Hollywood celebrities thinks that by supporting SOPA things will be better for them but unfortunately, I think most people will get fed up by all this crap and eventually it will end up hurting their business even more. I just hope this bill will not be passed.

Common sense says it shouldn't pass. If our elected officials are listening to us it shouldn't pass. If they actually read the bill it shouldn't pass. But who knows???

Let wait and see whether they will use their common sense this time.

It seems technology hurts Hollywood too much. So they should just stop making movies totally. Instead they can make plays for theaters and stop people from videotaping them. No need to release any of it on discs since they encourage piracy. I heard that the guy who was pushing these bills in Congress now want them to be rewritten. But some blind small politicians are still supporting them because they just do not have any idea of how they can be misused. I am against the bills completely. They will totally stop us from making websites and even taking information from them for educational purposes. Why is it that what Hollywood wants is more important now than creating real jobs for the unemployed? I do understand that the movie industry isn't having a good business. But no, they cannot blame Internet users about it. People don't go to theater to watch movies anymore because they want to save money or because they have been laid off. Also majority of the Hollywood movies now are no more interesting. There are too many aging actors that young people don't find attractive. Also they release mostly cartoon movies that adults do not find interesting. I suppose they should first fix those things than annoying others.

Hollywood has too much power. And people listen, especially politicians, listen to them. I don't know why. The scope of this bill is too large and it won't stop piracy. After all, girl scouts singing "Michael Row Your Boat Ashore" around the campfire should not be considered "piracy." And it was. I agree that piracy is a problem, but this will stop everything on the internet but piracy and gives government too much control . . . mainly our government. Thanks for your input divineathena.

SOPA, sometime in February but PIPA, this January 24th. Though they say the PIPA is going to fail for sure with more supporters backing off and the congress requiring 60 votes.
