The Raliegh Police Department (RFD) answered an emergency call from a concerned person who saw a five-foot iguana on the road on Tuesday evening. When the RFD arrived on scene and they saw the five-foot iguana, they called the local animal officers who took the iguana to a safe place. The animal control officers were amazed that an iguana was seen in North Carolina since iguanas have a breeding population in Florida after coming to America in the 1960s from Cuba. The animal control officers believe that a person who owns an iguana may have lost the pet since the weather conditions in North Carolina are not suited for iguanas. I wish that someone would transport this large iguana to Florida. Then, it can live in the wild, with other iguanas!

The person would have been surprised to see an iguana on the road.

A 5 foot iguana? That's a biggie. They are a real problem down in Florida; and they are always shooting them. I'm glad the iguana was rescued.

A brave police-officer to hold onto the critter like that. I would have left it well-alone, to let the trained animal officers handle it. Maybe she just wanted the photo.
