How often do you make mashed potatoes? When is the last time you made them?

Pioneer Woman just made scalloped potatoes on TV that look good, but I haven't had mashed potatoes for a long time. They sound good for tonight.I might actually make a little gravy to go along with them. When is the last time you made mashed potatoes?

I have never made mashed potatoes. I make baked potatoes, but I’m not going to the trouble of making mashed potatoes unless I’m married with kids. Honestly, if I liked them more I would go to the trouble of making them. But I consider the fat of gravy, and mashed potatoes without gravy doesn’t taste as good.

I generally will make baked potatoes..or the store bought instant potatoes if I want mashed..but homemade are so much healthier, as long as you don't use a ton of gravy or butter.

Amber, have you ever tried Bob Evans mashed potatoes in the refrigerated (not frozen) section at the grocery store? They're really good and very close to home made mashed potatoes.

I made them yesterday. Real, not instant. I made Chicken Marsala, and my son thinks he has to have mashed potatoes with that, so he can use the sauce on the potatoes. He absolutely loves potatoes!

@MarieCoyle When I used to have holiday dinners with my relatives .my Aunt probably cooked and mashed 5 pounds of potatoes. It was a vat.

@snowy22315 My kids and grands all love potatoes. I don't think there would be a way I could fix them that they wouldn't like.

I often make mashed potatoes during the cold season. I think the last time has been two weeks ago to serve with the chicken and creamy mushrooms sauce.

I usually eat mashed cauliflower these days. I love mashed potatoes, but try to avoid them. Unfortunately they are not diabetic friendly.

@Tampa_girl7 Have you made faux gravy? I either cook raw cauliflower or go with frozen cauli and blend that up with garlic and lemon and soy sauce and call that gravy or sauce.

Mashed cauliflower isn't bad. If I have some I sometimes put it in with mashed potatoes or potato salad. Actually I have some, but didn't think of it until you mentioned that

That depends. I have never made homemade mashed potatoes. However, I have made instant mashed potatoes from a bag many times. I have a handful of bags of instant potatoes in my pantry. I may make some soon. Eventually, my peer and I will probably make homemade ones I want her to help me as she is a superior cook.

It's not hard, but you do need a mixer, to make the good ones.

@psanasangma I should try making lentil gravy sometime. Thanks, maybe it would be something I would like. I am a fan of beans which come in their own liquid if you buy them in a can.

Actually, I made mashed potatoes today. They're a lot of effort, so I usually buy Bob Evans which are close to mine, but didn't have any. I took a muscle relaxer and a Gabapentin at 10am and they didn't give me any pain relief until 12 noon. Then they wore off about 3pm. So I took advantage of that three hour window of some relief to cook dinner. I baked a pork loin, made mashed potatoes from scratch, home made gravy, and green beans (from a can...they're usually not too awfully bad, but these were horrible.) But the potatoes and gravy were so yummy and I have enough left for dinner tomorrow. I'm still waiting for the appointment for the second nerve block, then hopefully the ablation some time after that. I hope any of you who are mothers will have a wonderful Mother's Day tomorrow. We're planning to go to our friend's church in the morning and then tomorrow afternoon for an early supper at our favorite steak house. I plan to wear my new charm bracelet that is a gift from the kids. (I'll post a photo of it soon.)

@snowy22315 I often doctor up canned green beans with brown sugar and butter or coated with corn meal and fried. But these today were just really terrible. Do you add anything to the Italian beans?

Mashed potatoes and gravy sound like the perfect comfort food! The last time I made mashed potatoes was during Eid celebrations. We paired them with some delicious shaami kababs mixed with a blend of aromatic spices. Now that you mention it, though, it might just inspire me to whip up a batch tonight!

@snowy22315 No, I didn't have them with gravy. The mashed potatoes I eat are without gravy and almost tasteless. I have a digestive problem and I can't eat gravy. But I can eat butter with mashed potatoes.

I make mashed potatoes quite frequently like once in a week or every two weeks. Potatoes are a staple in our home and mashed potatoes is just one of the many ways we enjoy our potatoes. Goes well with some gravy, then meat or chicken.
