Day 120 – Duty Numbers 3:1 Now these are the records of Aaron and Moses when JEHOVAH spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai. 2 These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab, the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he consecrated to minister as priests. 4 Nadab and Abihu had died before JEHOVAH when they offered profane fire before JEHOVAH in the Wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar ministered as priests in the presence of Aaron their father. 5 JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 6 “Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him. 7 They will attend to his needs and the needs of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of meeting, to do the work of the tabernacle. 8 Also, they will attend to all the furnishings of the tabernacle of meeting, and to the needs of the children of Israel, to do the work of the tabernacle. 9 You will give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are given entirely to him from among the children of Israel. 10 You will appoint Aaron and his sons, and they will attend to their priesthood; but the outsider who comes near will die.” 11 Then JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “Now behold, I Myself have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of every firstborn who opens the womb among the children of Israel. Therefore, the Levites will be Mine, 13 because the firstborn are Mine. On the day I struck the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast. They will be Mine: I am JEHOVAH.” 14 Then JEHOVAH spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai, saying, 15 “Number the children of Levi by their fathers’ houses, by their families; you will number every male from a month old and above.” 16 Moses numbered them according to the word of JEHOVAH, as he was commanded. 17 These were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 18 These are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei. 19 The sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 20 The sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites by their fathers’ houses. 21 From Gershon came the family of the Libnites and the family of the Shimites; these were the families of the Gershonites. 22 Those who were numbered, according to the number of the males from a month old and above were seven thousand five hundred. 23 The families of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle westward. 24 The leader of the fathers’ house of the Gershonites was Eliasaph the son of Lael. 25 The duties of the children of Gershon in the tabernacle of meeting included the tabernacle, the tent with its covering, the screen for the door of the tabernacle of meeting, 26 the screen for the door of the court, the hangings of the court which are around the tabernacle and the altar, and their cords, according to all the work relating to them. 27 From Kohath came the family of the Amramites, the family of the Izharites, the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites; these were the families of the Kohathites. 28 According to the number of the males, from a month old and above, there were eight thousand six hundred keeping charge of the sanctuary. 29 The families of the children of Kohath were to camp on the south side of the tabernacle. 30 The leader of the fathers’ house of the families of the Kohathites was Elizaphan the son of Uzziel. 31 Their duty included the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the utensils of the sanctuary with which they ministered, the screen, and the work relating to them. 32 Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest was to be chief over the leaders of the Levites, with oversight of those who kept charge of the sanctuary. 33 From Merari came the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites; these were the families of Merari. 34 Those who were numbered, according to the number of the males from a month old and above, were six thousand two hundred. 35 The leader of the fathers’ house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. These were to camp on the north side of the tabernacle. 36 The appointed duty of the children of Merari included the boards of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, its utensils, the work relating to them, 37 and the pillars of the court, with their sockets, their pegs, and their cords. 38 Moreover, those who were to camp before the tabernacle on the east, before the tabernacle of meeting, were Moses, Aaron, and his sons, keeping charge of the sanctuary, to meet the needs of the children of Israel; but the outsider who came near would die. 39 Everyone who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of JEHOVAH, by their families, the males from a month old and above, were twenty-two thousand. 40 Then JEHOVAH said to Moses, “Number the firstborn males of the children of Israel from a month old and above and take the number of their names. 41 You will take the Levites for Me—I am JEHOVAH—instead of the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of the firstborn among the livestock of the children of Israel.” 42 Moses numbered the firstborn among the children of Israel, as JEHOVAH commanded him. 43 The firstborn males, according to the number of names from a month old and above, of those who were numbered of them, were twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three. 44 Then JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 45 “Take the Levites instead of the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of their livestock. The Levites will be Mine: I am JEHOVAH. 46 For the redemption of the two hundred and seventy-three of the firstborn of the children of Israel, who are more than the number of the Levites, 47 you will take five shekels for each one individually; you will take them in the currency of the shekel of the sanctuary, the shekel of twenty gerahs. 48 You will give the money, with which the excess number of them is redeemed, to Aaron and his sons.” 49 Moses took the redemption money from those who were over and above those who were redeemed by the Levites. 50 From the firstborn of the children of Israel he took the money, one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. 51 Moses gave their redemption money to Aaron and his sons, according to the word of JEHOVAH, as JEHOVAH commanded Moses. God’s names: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Yeshuwa – Jesus Iesous – Jesus Christos – Anointed One Theos – Supreme Divinity, God God’s character: Instructor What would the world be like without unemployment? Everyone would have an assigned job and know what they were to do. What would it be like not to hear the unemployment rates on the evening news? JEHOVAH told Moses and Aaron what jobs the Levites held in the service of the tabernacle. He also told them who the heads of each clan of the Levites were and assigned each family a specific duty in the tabernacle and where they were to camp around the tabernacle. If you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you are among the priesthood of JEHOVAH. 1 Peter 2:4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by Theos and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to Theos through Iesous Christos. 6 Therefore, it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” 7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,” 8 and “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of Theos, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. You are priests before Theos and have a duty in the body of Christos. Do you know your duty, your job assignment in the body of Christos? The priests were to keep the charge of the tabernacle. They were appointed to take care of everything in the tabernacle. You have the same duty. You are to take care of the things of Theos. You might ask what it entails. Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of Theos, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to Theos, which is your reasonable service. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of Theos. 1 Timothy 2:1 Therefore, I exhort first that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and everyone in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in godliness and reverence. Your duty is to present your body as a living sacrifice and pray for everyone in authority over you. The priests offered sacrifices for the people and prayed for them when they brought their offerings to them. When they did, JEHOVAH heard their prayers and saw their sacrifices. JEHOVAH will hear your prayers and see your life as the living sacrifice of obedience to Him and bless you. Are you ready to live your life in obedience to JEHOVAH? Are you ready to give your life as a living sacrifice for His service? Are you already doing so? Let’s pray: Father, let my life be a living sacrifice to You. Let my prayers come before You for everyone I encounter and those in authority over me. Bless me as I live fully for You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. It might seem a big ask for some people for us to all live fully for God, but that is one we must all do, if we want to do God's will, while we live here on this Earth.
