Saw an abandoned Beagle today

Docile...Beagle? Well...it was docile... Apparently, he has been left just a day or two ago. Very hungry. Other street dogs kept barking at him. I could barely give him a few biscuits. Looking quite out of place... But I cannot adopt. Our building rules do not permit. So...feel guilty leaving him to find his place among street dogs. He was a pet, so he will take time to learn the stray dogs ways.

That's very bad ! The pet owners should be more careful about the peats. Leaving them like this way is so so bad.

@vandana7 Dogs have to be taken care of like small kids. They get so emotionally attached to their owners. Yet the buying, Maintenance and Medical costs of the pets is so high that it is very tough for everyone to support them. That's the reason why I ask my kids not to have pets before they themselves are 20 plus and can handle pets (a lot) on their own. Yet I also feel that may be State or Central Governments can provide community dog Houses for keeping abandoned pet animals.

Each beagle costs near about 20000 to 25000. This one clearly was pure breed. He was not going to the dustbin, hungry as he was. He was following humans around. Forlorn. I don't understand how people can leave their dog like that. Dogs are like family members, right? And for no fault of theirs?

Maybe ask a few neighbors, friends and relatives willing to adopt the poor beagle. If no one is willing to adopt the beagle, it would be great to report it to animal welfare groups. They take in stray, abandoned, neglected and abused animals, take good care of them and give them the medical attention needed. People should not have pets in the first place if they would just abandon them in the future anyway. Such cruelty should not be tolerated.

@HaruLoid People hurt the dog without stopping to take him to vet. How can we forgive ourselves for that sin? Just because it is not legally enforceable offense, we just go our ways. And this is breaking heart! A pet that does not steal from you. Doesn't take away your hard working money. Doesn't betray you. We humans deserve the worst fate.

Dogs care Kayla. They feel. We break their heart. When they are young, we play with them. Easy to like. Then we start fancying something new, and we no longer want them. They didn't betray us. We betray them. The thought of being deserted is so sad.

@vandana7 Yea, I know. I've had several dogs in my lifetime. They can be man's best friend, but they are also fairly needy creatures. Unlike cats, it's in a dog's nature to please. They feel more than most.

@kaylachan Hardly a few weeks I started feeding street dogs, just on Thursdays. Because I go out on that day. They greet me so well. It is hard to believe they are street dogs.

Someone in our neighborhood stole a pup and kept him. Initially, their kids treated the pup very badly as I heard from another neighbour. One day, I saw their kid kicking the pup while walking. I could not trust my eyes, so I looked at them again and then another kick! I shouted then, asked them to treat them with dignity, they also have lives. So I can understand your helplessness. Because I asked my dad to talk to an NGO but they asked for proof and I had none.

Cruelty to animals needs a serious consideration. I see many people hurting street dogs and getting away with it, because that is not illegal. Many grown up guys throw stones at them. I feel I can murder then.

@vandana7 I don't wanna murder them but give them their own medicines.. Then they would know how it feels!! I wish I had any proofs.. Also the people who keep littering in their environment.

Each beagle costs about 25000 INR that is around 300 plus USD. The forlorn look the poor dog had is still etched in my mind. Hard to forget. We break hearts of these poor creatures so shamelessly.

@vandana7 All a dog wants is to be loved, fed and played with. And they give us so much.

There should be laws. People should be told to write some property on their names. That way they would not be able to cash it. I am upset at the thought of how people can hurt their pets as if they have no feelings. Rendering them so helpless so shamelessly is a serious sin.

Can you find a way to make eye contact with him...let him know you do not want to eat him...and give him snacks that the other dogs cannot get to? If he has a human on his side, perhaps he can move up the doggie hierarchy.

He did not turn up the last thursday. May have moved elsewhere. I will be on look out for him. Average street dog life is only about 3.5 to 4 years out here. The five I have taken to feeding may live longer because it is not only I but others in the surrounding buildings who treat them as their pets. This ensures people will not hit them...but accidents can happen.

People are strange...they crib about disloyal friends and family. But when they get loyalty they dump it.

I feel the need to check on him today. But Dad says no. There seems to be no solution. Had you seen how he was trying to follow others, and not going to dustbins. You would have realized he needed company, pampering. I gave him a few biscuits, but the other dogs that I normally feed, were constantly barking at him. Territorial issue. They recognize the area as theirs for food. Maybe 6 to 8 biscuits. He ate them fast, which means the poor dog was very hungry. Unfortunately, I had to feed the others to keep them off him. So not enough.

This is very sad. In my country, we have the same problem with stray dogs. They have a harsh life.

If you look at their eyes, there is so much innocence. I feel the need to protect them. People throw stones at them, it is so bad. No wonder they bite. Intense hunger drives them to devour babies and toddlers. But people are at fault. Why create demand for dogs, and then desert them?

It will take some time. Maybe a couple of months before others realize he is as unfortunate as them. Wonder if dogs are as forgiving understanding and accommodating. We humans surely do not have that trait.
