Why do Christians have to announce that fact?

So often I see, hear or read, "I'm a Christian.".....OK, but why do you have to tell us that? I am Catholic - I don't go around saying, "I'm Catholic." If I ask you what religion/faith you are and you say, "I'm Christian"...
