Does depression run in families?

My sister has tried to kill herself twice, and is now okay and on meds for manic depression. My young daughter acts a lot like my sister did at her age, with mood swings and such. Do you think depression runs in families?

There are lots of things to do as a family activity besides sitting at a movie, basically ignoring each other for a few hours, and cheaper too. Cooking a meal together is great, provides quality time to talk and learn to...
