FaerieFan Just an anecdote to support this thread: we tried for years to get our daughter with autism to remember our phone number, and made up songs and rhymes and other methods to try to get it into her head (we thought it was an important "safety skill" for her)....

How to handle autistic child?

My friend's daughter is exhibiting signs of autism although there is no final findings yet. I wrote this discussion to help my friend understand what is autism and for her to know how to handle her daughter.

FaerieFan My daughter is now 14, and was diagnosed at age 7 after 5 years of searching for answers. We still have meltdowns on occasion, but she is getting better at managing her behavior and we are better at giving her advance warning of things that are coming up that...
