Africa - The actual continent of Africa consists of 47 countries. There also 6 islands bordering the continent that are usually included in the overall count of African countries, bringign the total to 53. The poorest country in Africa is not that surprising. It is the country of Zimbabwe. On a sad note, the reason for the poorness is due to the fact that many people have dies from the AIDS virus.
