Tomato Ketchup - Bunol, a small Spanish town, erupts into a fiery blaze of tomato-hurling every August. It?s called La Tomatina. The festival has no political or religious significance. Fun is the sole objective. The night before the festival, the narrow streets beneath the town?s imposing medieval bell tower are filled with tomatoes. Trucks roll in with their precious argo?sloppy, squishy tomatoes from the four corners of the country. The fighters pelt the trucks, each other and anything else that strays within their range. The fight continues until more than 90,000 pounds of tomatoes have been hurled! The biggest tomato fight began with a good laugh. During the 1940s, a number of friends in Bunol?s main town square started a tomato fight for unknown reasons. Their hooliganism drew passers-by and everyone had a great time. Since then, the fiesta has grown bigger each year.
