My son won't stop sucking his thumb/finger! Help!

When I switched my son over from the bottle to a sippy cup he started sucking his thumb. So I tried that nasty tasting stuff on his thumb and he moved on to his finger. He curls it in his mouth so that he is sucking on the middle...
