Babies in the middle of the night

Why does my child sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and let out a big scream then goes right back to sleep? Is he really awake when he makes this loud noise? It's so strange! Anyone else's child do this?

jspellman04 I imagine its normal overall. dreams,nightmares, uncomfortable and restless.
