Why doesnt my wii play AVI files?

i downloaded a video from youtube and put it on an sd card after converting it to an avi file but my wii still reckons it is the wrong format whats wrong?

lechuck avi is just a container. are you sure you have converted it in mjpg format? To be sure you shoud try to use a wii format video converter like wiitivi (http://www.wiitivi.com) for example.
