At the gym I go to, there's a course of BJJ (Brazilian jiu jitsu) for women which seems like a really solid thing. Women can learn how to get rid of different grabs, how to push a guy, throw him to the floor and wrestle him out...

I have mostly an amiable relationship with all my electronic devices. I love my TV, my laptop. The same applies to home appliances. I have no issues worth mentioning with my fridge or dishwasher. They are all nice to me and I...

What's the most impressive fusion of cuisine (both ingredients and cooking style) that you met? Think about sushi with smoked salmon, or a burrito with rice paper. A Chinese friend of us came for dinner and she did all the...

Does the rule that men pay for the first date still apply?
Robert Centauro

I have been with my partner some years now. I wonder if the rule that the men still pay for the first date still applies. I know some women who earn quite well, and some guys who are not making so much. It would look strange if a...

I need more light as winter approaches

As the days get shorter and shorter, I feel I need more light. I'd try to stand up earlier and spend some time outside. Alternatively, I'd buy one of these light lamps for seasonal depression.

It's Facebook going down?
Robert Centauro

When it was launched, Facebook rapidly reached a central role among all social networks. People were like ' what, you don't have Facebook?' when you didn't have a profile. Before that, MySpace was the coolest platform on the...

Why are Asians so much into gambling?
Robert Centauro

In the local casino near me, there are literally buses full of Asian tourists arriving every day. Why so many Asians gamble? Obviously, Asian or not, you can see equally well what a swamp gambling is. I wonder whether their...

Tired of new year's resolutions that I will forget or simply won't keep, I make new month resolution. I set some targets for this December too. I expect to improve my running (measuring by two miles), read at least 4 novels, learn...

Are you more generous with charities in winter?
Robert Centauro

Are you somehow in the mood to help people when winter comes? There's also Christmas to soften us, but seeing how cold is outside, do you donate more money or old clothes during this period? It's as if summer were OK for the...

Why do people lie so much through text/SMS/whatsapp?
Robert Centauro
@ourlot
(982)
29 Nov 17
It's as if it didn't matter to some people. Once they are texting, they turn the honesty off. And they don't mind telling you tall tales to get away with whatever they are doing. In person, people are much more honest.

Even if I can get any book in digital form nowadays, I keep going to the library. I thought that digital stuff would kill the library, but they kept innovating and offering more services. There are readings for kids, for seniors...

The Simpsons (as of Nov. 2017) have 625 episodes. That's two episodes per day, if I watch them every single day during a year. I think this will be a new year's resolution for the approaching 2018. Watching all the Simpsons is...

Surveys: somehow I'm never a match
Robert Centauro

I don't know how many times I was asked to answer a survey. Just to be turned down for not being a match. I wonder what's wrong with me: too old, too poor, too active, too far from main metro areas?

The maximum number of friends you can have is 150 (it's called the Dunbar's number). The average number of friends in the US is 8.6, not counting relatives. You can't have more than 5,000 friends on Facebook. In any case,...

I started to watch a TV series and it's fantastic: Northern Exposure

Recently I came across a TV series named Northern Exposure and I was flabbergasted. I think it's from the late 80s or beginning of the 90s. It has a very intelligent insight in many issues and a subtle humor. It's set in Alaska...

How much weight do you place on coincidences?
Robert Centauro
@ourlot

If you meet someone by coincidence three times in a week, and you live in a kind of big place, where that's not common. Do you place any weight on that? Do you believe in fate? Or is it all random and meaningless?

Why are there so many silly questions and answers in Yahoo answers? Like "I swallowed a sock, what should I do"? And worse, much worse.
