Harry Potter? Micky Mouse? Robbinhood, Superman or ……In my country almost all the Chinese educated children like to read “Journey To The West”. The story was about a handsome monk and his three pupils, the monkey, the pig and the river monk. Most of the children here are freaked of the superior power of the Monkey God. They never get tedious of reading it again and again. This book can also be found in cartoon version which could normally arouse more public interests. What books do your children like to read? Please kindly share your information with me.

I read it since I was in the elementary school (simplified version) I was facinated by it's interesting story line and funny character. I learned a lot moral from the story. I think comics and games are more popular than books among children in our country nowadays.

These books are really interesting and are fond by most children in general. These books are educational and amusing and could give good teaching to young children. I used to encourage children to read all theses interesting books when they get bore with their toys.

I'm working as baby-sitter now, so I have a chance to know more about children likings:) The girl I'm taking care off (5 years old) likes the most Harry Potter, I'm afraid:/ All her friends love Harry Potter, so does she. I think there are more interesting books for children, but Harry Potter is very popular in Poland now.

That's interesting. Maybe my son is so little now, so the most popular books for this age is "Pulling out the carrot". He likes this book very much.

Hi youless, it is nice to adopt the good practice of reading since your son is little. To pull out the large carrot is really an interesting story for little kids, especially the colorful and attractive picture in the page. I believe your lovely son must be rather enjoying the simple story and never feel bored reading it over and over again. I like watching kid reading book. They engross themselves so much in their pictures reading.

Hello dear lkbooi. In China, of all of the books you listed here, "Journey to the West" is the most popular among children. This book has been put on movies, not only in the form of cartoon, but also in the form of real actors and actresses. It is played on different TV stations again and again when either winter or summer vacation comes. My son watched it again and again for many times without getting tired of it before he was thirteen. My father-in-law loves it very much. So do I. I still remember when I was a teen, my father took me and my neighbour girl of the same age to another town to watch this movie at a cinema by bike. I was so cared by the White Bone Spirit, who changed herself three times in order to cheat them four, especially Master Tang. I could still the movie very well even after more than score years. By the way, I read this classic novel a few times and did not get bored of reading it again and again. Thanks very much for this discussion. Good night.

Yeah jisir, the famous classical novel really has its great significance to arouse wonderful interest among readers of all ages. It’s true that this story is either in form of books or movies is widely loved by the people in general. I still could remember the latest movie about the story how the actor, qi xiao ling tong had fully protruded the real character of the monkey god. His appearance, as well as others of his companions, would vividly appear in my mind whenever I happen to hear the theme song of the show “lu zai he fan”. Yeah, the white bone spirit is indeed one of the exciting parts as well. Just like you, during childhood we had the same feeling, that is though scary but lovely. We are really proud to have such a valuable classical heritage which could always make life pleasant and fanciful through generations.

Yes it’s really a sad thing to see the reading habits of children have become poorer and poorer. Anyhow the schools and societies here do have programs to encourage reading for children. This practice is found quite effective too. TV programs may serve as a stepping for further book reading. Thanks for responding :)
