Does your cat like to be held?

We have a cat that is about 4 years old and a kitten who is about 6 months old. The older cat doesn't like to be bothered much and doesn't want to be held. She lets you know when she wants attention. On the other hand, the kitten just loves to be held and cuddled alllll the time. She's just so lovable. Does anyone else notice the same things with their cats? Or is this just a kitten thing, and if it's a kitten thing I hope she never grows up. :-)

My cat is lazy and an absolute lap cat. He will just lay there in your lap until you physically move him and then he'll just find someone else to lay on. He's two years old so it's definitely something that some cats never grow out of.

we have 2 cats, one from my mom and one from me. my cat doesn't like to be held when it's my mom grabbing her, when it's me she doesn't move. the other one doesn't like to be held at all, she desides when she needs attantion and then she'll come ask for it. We can like get that one, put her on our lap, she'll jump off and 20 seconds later come back lol

We have 2 cats and neither one likes to be heald for long periods of time. What Alexis does is jumps up on my desk and gets in my face when she wants attention. Precious will do the same thing. They both will also climb on me when I am in bed and tickle my nose and want attention. Then they will lay down on me and fall asleep.
They are funny but I love them just the same and wouldent change them.

Some older cats are like that. My two cats, Waffles, who is 2 years old, and Columbus, who is 10 years old, do not like to be picked up and held. Of course, that may all change in the next few months. Those cats were adopted from a shelter last October and are probably still adjusting.

Aww, if they came from a shelter then they probably are still adjusting like you said. I hope it works it for you. We got our kitten from a shelter and we were actually surprised how lovable she was. We were afraid that she would be kind of skittish.

I have had both cats and kittens that want to be held. And then I have had both that didn't want to be held. I sit here a lot of the time typing with one hand because I am usually holding a cat.lol. Then there are the cats that just like to sit on my lap and that makes getting at the keyboard a little challenging.

i have never met an adult cat that will tollerate being held for very long. A cat will come and sit on me periodically but this always has to be on the cats terms, never mine. In my experience, cats are so independent, being held is an infringement of this indipendence.
The old adage is true, dogs have owners, Cats on the other hand, have staff

I agree with the other post -- I think some like to be held and some don't. Mine will demand my attention (pets), but when I try to hold him he runs.
