I did that one year too. I planted the seeds way to early. I went and bought huge planters for my tomatoes and replanted them into them. I then left them in there all season. Just moved them out to the deck. I had fantastic results with container gardening. I've done it every year since. I still plant in the regular garden too,but i love walking on to the deck and picking fresh tomatoes, peppers and lettuce. If you leave them in peet pots to long they will get long and leggy and their stems will be weak.

RickRocks,
about the lettuce. I planted lettuce for the first time last year, and I must say the plants got huge. At first they were delicious, but like yours, they got bitter. This is what I've found out thus far.
The lettuce has to be picked young. Once they start to flower, that's it, they are useless (unless you like bitter). But, they do grow fast, like radishes. Plant several times. When the leaf starts to get bitter, unless you want the seeds, compost the plant. Hopefully you already have another plant growing to replace it.

you really want to give them more room to spread their roots. What kind of seeds? Veggies, flowers, fruits?

If you plan on planting them outside, you can get one of those disposable cooking pans, fill it 1/2 way with soil, and cut the side of the peet pots, and place themin the pan. When you are ready to re-plant, just cut each one out. If you plan on keeping them inside, just replant them in a bigger pot.Depending on what you have, soon as the last frost has past, you can plant in the ground.
