What do you think drives our youth to commit heinous crimes?

The Virginia Tech massacre is the deadliest shooting in history. The police identified a student from South Korea to be the gunman. He was described to be a loner and investigators are having difficulty gathering information. More young people are getting involved in serious crimes. What do you think drives these young people to commit such an act?

I heard about this young man and it seems like he had a lot going for him, too. But, in his case, there might have been a lot of pressure on him from all sides. I've also heard that he was having a relationship problem with a girl friend or significant other, but that has not been confirmed. He may have felt that he was being pushed into a corner and there was no way out. He may have also been angry because he felt that he was being controlled and losing control. A lot of times when things like this happen, the person doesn't feel like there is any kind of future. And, they feel disenchanted and that no one cares for them to succeed or are trying to keep them from succeeding.

I see what you are saying here, but you also have to keep in mind that he knew what he was doing. He called in bomb threats to see how the police around here (I live in Blacksburg about 4 minutes from campus) respond to calls and he was wearing a bulletproof vest. I don't even know where to get a bullet proof vest let alone have one for myself. I really resent the fact that they were saying it was because he was from a broken home at first and that's why he lost his mind, but as it turns out, he's not from a broken family.

Recent reports have said that he submitted papers in school that were suggestive of his anger. The faculty noticed that there was something odd about him but failed to act on it. His parents should have noticed something, too. It's sad that he wasn't given the help that he needed.
