For those who do not live in the United States, I'd love to know your opinion or view of American's and the USA. This has always been a topic of interest to me. Is your opinion based on what you have seen, heard or read .. or do you have a personal experience that shaped your opinion? Whether it's good or bad, I'd love to hear it. I just ask that we keep it respectful and honest. I don't mind if you hate American's, just try not to say that we all suck and you want us to die a horrible death.
:]
I'd also love to hear from American's and how they think other countries view us.
I'm asking this question because recently I had a discussion with a man from Austria and I was a little shocked to hear his views on the USA and American's. It wasn't so bad, it's just that I didn't think people who had never been here before had such strong opinions of us.

i plan to do my post grad in US of A!
Honestly i have heard the both sides of US..the good and the bad but i dont like commenting because i have yet seen it myself or have experienced it myself.
The good part is know to all, the economy booming, the lifestyle 's great..one gets the value of life unlike other countries(or even mine in this case- INDIA) the quality life is not achieved here but could be dere...and more n more...
the dark side~~ i keep quite as i am not fully aware and all my writings could be offending to americans.

Hi Karvin!
Thank you for your response. I'm glad you will be coming here to do your post grad - we'll be lucky to have you.
:]
Do you know where you will study yet?
There are some very wonderful things about my country but you are right, there are some bad parts too - I think this is true for all countries, I just believe that we have alot more opportunities that 'some' other countries do not have so that outweighs the bad in my opinion.
I just wanted to tell you that you should not feel that you need to keep quite about your views, opinions or ideas in this country. Most American's have their own views, opinions and ideas as well and if they are good people, they will respect yours and vice versa. I love that I can share my opinion with my real friends and even if we disagree or are on opposite sides of the discussion - we can still share and be friends afterwards. I think it's an important part of living in this country - the freedom of speech and if someone tries to keep me quite, then they better watch out because that's when I become MORE vocal.
:]
Thanks for sharing your opinions, I appreciate it!

Diana, I have never visited USA, therefore my opinion about americans and USA is based on the written material and media. Well, USA is the most developed country in the world and it is one of the most advanced country. I think people of USA are as good as you. I think nationality does not effect the nature or character of a person. It cannot be generalised that all americans are very good or bad. As far as my personal experience is concerned, I have found you are the most exceptional and wonderful american frined, I have ever found.... so for me I believe that all americans are as good as you.LOL.

Deepak you flatter me too much - thank you!
I'm positive that not all American's are like me and that's a good thing. I have my bad points and things that people would try to change about me as well. I try to be a good person and do what is right in my life but I'm human and make mistakes like the next person. I have three things going against me in the eyes of the world - I'm an American Christian Republican. But I'm not ashamed of that.
:]
I agree with you that nationality does not define a person's nature or character as a human.
Thank you so much for your wonderful reply.

well usa is a major power...as a major power it has great responsibilties.it should try to bring more justice, peace ,harmony and understanding.on the other hand it is using its power to become a higher power. usa should strike a philanthropic attitude.

Thank you for your response and opinion.
You have tapped into something that some people, even American's themselves, don't seem to remember or understand as much as they should. That is the fact that as a major power, we have great responsibilities. I agree that it should bring more justice, peace, harmony and understanding - but with those actions comes much hate for the USA and the decisions we make to uphold those types of things. We can not have justice, peace, harmony or understanding in a world that doesn't agree and when we try to uphold those very things, we are looked down on and become the 'bad' guy. It's a tough seat to be in and I do not envy our President or the decisions he has had to make over the past few years.
Thank you again for your response!

im in europe and well, it seems like a country of yber-religious people (yes i know the historical reasons), for example Bush said something about him being chosen by god...
in general, government usually defines the opinion of a country. your Bush seems so self-justifing when it is obvious he is wrong. (but still, not half as bad as putin).

Thank you for your response - I appreciate it and respect it.
Regardless of what your opinions are of our President and regardless of whether I agree with you or not - I do not think he defines who American's are as a whole. From your posting it would seem to say that all American's are self-justifing yber-religious people and I do not believe that to be the case.
BUT again, I completely respect your opinion and I thank you for responding.
