i am a great fan of subway sandwiches and its in my opinion one of the best fastfood choices there is.
there is only one thing that bothers me, and that is the diffence in quality depending on the store you are in.
my question is: does anybody else notice significant differences between subway experiences? are those differences bigger than in similar chains? what is the main reason for those differences?

Oh I see, I had imagined there to be something special about the way they were made, the ingredients or combination thereof.

Generally, I hate fast food, finding it over priced and bland but I loved Soba in Japan with tempura; it came as a welcome relief from having raw fish and worse shoved down my throat continually. And I love grilled corn-on-the-cob, best was in Nairobi from street vendors.

Well you have to bear in mind I had been a vegetarian for a long time and had only just started eating fish. And the Sacheim was mild in comparison to some of the delicacies.

I've definitely noticed that, also. We have 2 subways close by, and one is excellent but the other is just so-so. When all the sandwich "recipes" should be the same, I don't understand the difference. My son and I decided that it really does all depend on who is behind the people who are behind the counter. A customer asks for certain things to be included on their sandwich, and one worker applies a minimum of each thing in a casual, haphazard way while another worker applies each thing with gusto... y'know? Most of the staff at the new store seem to enjoy what they're doing.. even tho they are young and most likely not making millions working there. The other, more established, location has staff that act as if they are doing you a favor. I think it all comes back to supervision and motivation. What do you think?

you are absolutely right, but are those differences between those two subway the same as the differences between lets say two mcdonald you visit, or do they appear larger because you are more involved in the production process of the food and therefore notice more detail?

Hope you're still reading... I lost my power yesterday! I think I definitely notice the difference more at subway because I actually watch all the preparations (one of the reasons I prefer subway to other "fast food" places). I've pretty much discontinued visiting McDonald's and Burger King, much to my son's dismay, because at both places I had odd substances show up in food/drink.

There are two different subways by my house and I do notice that there is a big difference in them.
The one closer to me older people work there, they seem to always be cranky and don't really take their time so I end up with a lopsided mess of a sandwich, and for some reason the price is 60 cents higher than the other store but I always order the same thing.
The other subway near my house is great, the people are always friendly and they take their time so my sandwich is just how I like it.
The differences in subways is huge compared to other food chains like mcdonalds I think. Since you are behind the counter watching the people making your meal at subway it makes all of the difference in your opinion of their service because you know exactly what they are doing and how they are doing it. At Mcdonald's or Wendy's you don't get to watch the process of your food being made so theres not much of an opinion. I don't end up judging their service like I do at subway unless they screw up my order because I can't see what they are doing back there.
