Thrift Stores and Yard Sales

I know that this hobby of mine can be time consuming, especially if you work as well, but I have saved so much money on so many things just by going to my local thrift stores. For example; My son has really bad asthma, recently the doctor recommended a cool air humidifier. I check Walmart, Target and Sears, and found that the cheapest model was over $40.00. The next day I walked in to a thrift store and found exactly what I wanted still in the box for $2.00. Recently my son went to 6th grade camp amd I know that he needed a sleeping bag, we had loaned or given ours away and hadn't been camping for about three years so we did'nt have one. I had to try 2 stores for this one, but I found a bag in great condition for $5.00. I just washed it and he was good to go. My grandkids are 7 and 5 and they visit often, since they were born I've gone to yard sales and thrift stores to buy their toys for between .25 cents and $1.00. When they get sick of them I re-donate and buy all new ones. Honestly I've re-stocked the entire toy-box for less than $10.00. Not to mention clothes, my husband is in construction, I buy his Levis for $3-5.00 and boots too for $5.00-7.00 depending on the store. This is something I started about 6 years ago when I decided to stay home with my youngest, the first two didn't have that from me and it just felt wrong. Anyway we knew we ahd to cut back and this was one way that's really paid off.

I love Yard Sales and Thrift Stores. :) I buy a lot of my scrubs for work there. Since we don't have to wear a certain color or certain style I can find some really cute ones. A lot of times I find brand new name brand shirts for my hubby at our local thrift shops for 3 or 4 bucks. I love it! We're on a tight budget quite often even with my hubby working 2 jobs. I've found this is one of the best ways to save money. I try to hit our local shops every few weeks when I have time to go. :)

I love to go to yard sales, thrift stores, dollar stores, and the like. I have found some really great deals that way. From clothes to furniture you can usually find something that works for you and usually at a great price. I also love freecyle for the same reason. If I can get it for free why buy it right? If it wasn't for thrift stores and the like I wouldn't have a lot of stuff just because the regular stores are out of my price range.

We love to go to yard sales and thrift stores. we too have founds some good deals although I am not as honorable about it as you seem to be. I think that it not only helps save money, but for evey item that we don't throw into a landfill, we help the environment. I commend you on such good finds and for teaching your children the value of a dollar.

I totally agree with you on this subject, I absolutely love thrift stores and yard/garage sales. In my local area we also have two "free stores". These stores are just like a big garage sell..where everyone donates their used or even sometimes new items and then you can go and pick out what you want or need. At one store there is a limit to the number of items that you can pick, which I believe is good, because some people simply go to get free stuff and then sell it in garage sells..that upsets me but I knew of a woman who did that. Luckily word got out and she was banned from going to the free store. I have three children and have gotten so many nice things for my children at the thrift stores and free stores, even name brand things with the tags still on them. I also have to say that when I go to a department store I always opt to check out the clearance items first. I love to find a good bargain. I rarely buy any clothing at full price. I just have a hard time making myself by anything full priced.
