If you want to measure out exactly one pint of water, and you have only a three pint jug and a five pint jug. How would you do it?

fill the 3 pint jug, pour it into the 5 pint jug, refill the 3 pint jug and fill the 5 pint jug from that, You will have 1 pint left in the 3 pint jug.

Using mathematics to solve your problem, we will come out with 6-5=1. Meaning two fills of the 3 pint jug will be needed to fill up the five pint jug, with one pint left in the 3 pint jug.
