Dark Water (water, women and black hair)

Has anyone seen Dark Water? staring one of my fav actresses Jennifer Connelly. the film didn't do well like it's other Japanese cousins, but it was chilling and thrilling toll the end...
I'm wondering WHY most Japanese horror flicks are based on single women with children, water and long black hair? the ring, the grudge and this one?? Is it some kind of scary fairy tale thing?

Jennifer Connelly is one of my fav actresses too! i liked her ever since i saw her as a young girl in the movie Labyrinth also starring David Bowie!
As for Dark water, i have seen it and found it be less creepy but more on the sad and give-you-a-sinking-feeling-in-the -pit-of-your-stomach type! Specially the ending when Jennifer sees her daughter for the last time in the elevator and the ending scene when supposedly she is watching her daughter drive away from her apartment window was really sad and depressing for me!
I dont know why the Japanese find single women with children, water and long black hair scary!! i think its something related to their culture or something!

Yes!! I saw Jenny in the Labyrinth when it first came out. I had a little "crush" on her back then... the only vision that sticks an my mind is that of an innocent child. When I see her doing more serious and adult roles, it blows my mind.
