Durian is a fruit unique to Southeast Asia. It is considered to be the king of fruit here. During the harvest season, there is a real flood of durians and prices never drop to dirt-cheap levels, as they do for pineapples and bananas. People in Southeast Asia seems to enjoy eating durian so much but it's shocking to see why majority of people from other part of the world cannot bear the smell or taste of it. Anthony Bourdain (Discovery Travel and Living) travels the world seeking the authentic experiences and foods that flavor the world's cultures simply restrain himself from eating durian. He simply expressed it by saying, 'For all the horrible foods that i have eaten, eyeballs, goat tongue, etc.. i couldn't simply bear to eat durian'. :D How worst could it be anyway? Do you like to eat durian?

I have never heard of this fruit, can you describe the taste, is it sweet, bitter, like any other type of fruit, oh and by the way did you take that photo of your avatar after he had eaten one of these by any chance. :)

:) im not sure how to describe the taste best. sorry! psst.. i haven't eaten durian for so long. I have quite an allergic eating this fruit. My body temperature will rise and i will get sick if i eat to much. I will get a little bit dizzy. That's why i stop eating durian for a long time now. ehmm, i don't think it's sweet nor bitter. Anthony Bourdain said it taste like rotten onion. :D the smell is really strong. he he he, you're so funny, yeaahh.. i could imagine the baby pic avatar just ate durian!! :P Maybe if you would like to taste one, you could come to southeast asia, thailand and malaysia has a lot to offer.

I would like to add some more. Here in Malaysia, we have durian-flavour ice cream..durian jam.. At home, during durian season we have self-made durian jam at home. But the funniest thing is i only eat the durian fruit not any other.. ice cream, jam or whatever... And there are many types of durian.. with different taste. Some taste bitter..some taste sweet....

I love durian very much. So yummy, but not good for our health. Some people don't like the smell, make them want to throw up, but for me it smell good.

hmm.. okay. ;) well, if you want to try, smell first. If you don't like the smell, it's a bad idea to try it too. Because the smell will stick unless you brush 10 times. :D kidding!

I love the durian. Widely known and revered in Southeast Asia as the "King of Fruits", the fruit is distinctive for its large size, unique odour, and a formidable thorn-covered husk. The fruit can grow up to 30 centimetres (12 in) long and 15 centimetres (6 in) in diameter, and typically weighs one to three kilograms (2 to 7 lbs). The hard outer husk is covered with sharp, prickly thorns, while the edible custard-like flesh within emits the strong, distinctive odour, which is so fragrant or overpowering and offensive to some. The taste of the flesh can be nutty, bitter or sweet.

I sure do eat durian. In fact, I love it. But it can be heaty if you eat too much of it. The taste and smell is just wonderful for me. They have durians mainly from Thailand and Malaysia and I love those from Thailand. In my home country, they have different kinds of durian like XO, etc. The so called branded ones are more expensive but not necessary as tasty.
