What is the One thing that can calm your mind when you get depressed?

Everybody when get depressed has something want to do, or want to have with you. Something for you that has calming effect and can take away your worries.
Mine is going to very crowded places, where everything will touch my curiousity till I forgot my problems.

Prayer and the name of Jesus. Those are the only things that have a calming effect on me. When I am very upset, very deppressed or very emotional, I pray. I call on God and since I trust in Him that He is listening to me at all times, I tell Him everything I want to say, and then calm down. It helps a lot and gives me a better perspective of life. I trust that God will take care of me whatever happens in this life He gave to me.

I find my calm in God's green Acres. I can be severely depressed and take a long walk outside and feel much better when I return. I need the green grass and the sky and the wonder of nature. It calms me and restores me. I feel invigorated after being out in nature.

I feel the same way too.......... I found God in Nature not in the Bible. Im sorry I'm just trying to be honest with myself.

I have to say that my cat is one of the main things that I turn to when I'm depressed. She lets me cuddle her as much as I want to and that's just the best thing.
Sometimes, I go for a walk in one of our city parks. My favorite place is called McNab's Island. This island sits in the middle of Halifax Harbour and is about a mile and a half long and about a half mile wide. You are allowed to explore anywhere or just stick to the paths that are there. This is one place where nature is barely touched by our city life and it gives me great calmness when I'm there.
I also turn to my faith in God. He has helped me in so many ways and I know whenever I truly surrender to His will, I receive everything I need - including relief from depression.

Cool.... its my dream to have a very pleasant sorroundings just outside my home. If I can earn a lots of money, I'll probably spend it for my sanctuary.

Excellent idea - I've pretty much decided on the same thing, that is to have my own santuary. Listening to nature sounds really does have a great effect, doesn't it?

when im depressed, i would pray very hard. i would cry myself out to the LOrd. i would tell everything to Him.. Im not the type of person who would tell everything to a friend. So, when im depressed i would rather be alone in my room and pray..some jolly friends would also help lessen my depression..or i would listen to good music

Well, sometimes its unavoidable that we feel depressed for the day..but for the health its not a good side, i believe in Meditation which will balance our mind and helps to be normal at situations. and even i sleep at times.

I dont believe in God..but i do respect others beliefs concerning God..so when i get depressed which has been more often recently...i listen to music,go to a beach or just remember some advice that my mom gives me..

Psychology suggests good positive company as well as socialization to divert the person's mind from the problems. They recomand a good counseling also!
If such problem is more deep then they suggest medicine which would be sedative or stimulating artificially your mind to face and forget the problem in a way that your worry went off till the stress and tiredness attack you again!
The metaphysical realm has some good positive things to provide: such as, breathing therapy, mind controling method of concentration, meditation under an expert person who knows the thing occurrences and what to do at that time!
For these things you need adviser!

A hot bubble bath with soft music and deep breathing techniques always seem to help me loads. If I don't have time for that, I cry it out.

When you are depressed you need an ego boost. You could go for Shopping or a new Hair Cut or watch a Comedy Movie. It definitely works for me.

There were times that whenever I got depressed, I will go to my turn on my component. I like to play songs that are mellow. Sometimes whenever possible I go to higher places. I went upstairs to our rooftop and just sightseeing. There I reminisce of the happy moments in my life. I also talk to jesus and just letting all out my depression.

I turn to my pets. Animals give unconditional love and that is what gets me through my depression. I can sit there and pet them and they will give back their undivided attention and somehow make me feel better. Usually I do this outside, weather permitting.
