Nail varnish : Do you apply a top coat and base coat?

Before applying my chosen colour, I always make sure that I apply a base coat. Applying a base coat helps to protect my nails against discolouration. Especially when I am going to use a dark nail varnish. Then I'd apply 2 coats of my chosen colour.
After which, I's apply a top coat. The top coat helps to protect my nail colour against chipping. Also, it provides a very beautiful shine to my nail colour. That's grea and I love it. :)
What about you? What's your usual routine when applying nail colour? Do you find that applying a base coat and top coat helps?

Hello velveprinzess
I use base coat and top coat too, base coat is really important to protect our nail.
I want my nail keep healthy and beautiful, if we don't use base coat, my nail will turn yellow and unhealth.
God bless you

On my fingers i don't tend to bother with either, since i only wear very pale colours and only wear nail polish fr a few days before it comes off anyway. Even if i used a top coat, two coats of colour and a base coat i would still ending with chipped polish on my finger nails within a few days.
I take more care with my toes though, as polish tends to last longer on them. I always apply a top coat to help the nail colour last longer, though not always a base coat. I really shuld start using a base coat as my toe nails are stareting to become a bit discoloured.
